hey im new here and i have a few questions.

i have a 12 track behringer mixer, which is connected to my computer ( a new sony). now the recording is fine, but im thinking, i wanna record seperate tracks for each line, but how do i do that without having my band play the whole song all over? is there some kidn of program that breaks down the recording into its mixer line ins?

and another little question. is it better to mic my amp while running my guitar through metal zone distortion? or just use my amp distortion. i got a 15 watt crate mx. my mic is a shure sm58.

You're half right. You would need multitrack recording software but that's not what seperates the tracks out. You need a sound card that has as many inputs as you need to record SIMULTAINIOUS tracks. You want to record 8 tracks at one time, you need a sound card with 8 inputs. You need 24 simultainious inputs, you need a sound card with 24 inputs. I use a MOTU 2408 mkII as a computer interface and an Alesis HD24 as a recorder and A/D/A converters.
As far as you guitar set up, experiment and see what sounds best to you my friend.

oen thing i still dont understand. when i plug instruments into my mixer, it comes out through one main output. i dont think theres an output for every channel, is there?

Tell me which Behringer you have and I'll let you know.

yeah it says there's only the regular mix and 2 aux. outputs, so you can only record two tracks at a time individually

well even thats good! how would i do that? would i need one of those delta quattro things? thats what guitar center said

no no withonly two tracks you could do it through your soundcard already, you dont have to buy anything. i'm not sure exactly how but you can set it up so that you have one track going through each channel (left and right) look into it, or ask someone who knows more of what they're talkin about? anyone? anyone? help this man...

(you'll just need one of those cables that on one side are RCA or 1/4 inch ends *whichever outputs you're using on your mixer*, you got two of those, and on the other side is one stereo 1/8 inch end. then plug it into the line in on your sound card. not the mic in)

dudeits so weird line in never works on my PC... i plug it into mic in and someone told me thats really bad, but is there something i gotta press to activate recording through line in?

w00t never mind i got it. well 2 track works well, i guess thats all i need, until i get a drummer

does your behringer have inserts? if it does only push 1/4 jack in half way and this will become a direct output for your sound card. i have a behringer 2442mx and a delta 1010lt this works great for 8 track recording. delta sound cards are good and fairly cheap.
