Hi folks.
Altough I have been playing for some time, I've always recorded with other ppl engineering, as most of you know.
But, from the last 2 years to now, I've started to read more and using my small porta studio ( porta 07) to make small demo tapes.
Last month I got the luck to found a nice ADAT and recorded my first tape on it, all alone ( my brother played drums and helped in the songs composing).
The best mic I own is a sm-57, so I know I need better gear than the adat ( phonic mixers can't do the game...)
I would like to know what u think about it...
its a kinda like Rollins Band I think.
Thank you !

listening to cold..

yeah it does remind me a bit of Rollins.. the vocal gets loud on those screaming parts.. too loud.. the part that comes after is great though.. the vocal sound is not good.. the highhat is cutting through a bit too much, but I always say that.. I like the tune, but don't like the vocal sound.. it makes me have to lower it instead of cranking it.. the guitar sounds good, but mono-ish.. probably would sound bigger if you spread it out a bit.. I would lower the screaming/clipping sounding vocals..

I am looking for a new mixing board , with better pre-amps and maybe a condenser mic. I bet that, close-miking the guitar with my sm57 and using the condenser one to get ambience, I may put more "air" in the recording.
My vocal skills aren't good, but I can't see no way to improve them other than rehearsal and recording/submiting .
Thanks for taking time to listen them.

Forgot to mention, its my first post to the mp3 mixing clinic.
aka *bump*

Your brother is a pretty decent drummer. The hi hat is cutting thru too much but I find that's a common problem when recording kits that are used primarily for playing live rather than recording. The cymbals and hats are usually heavier which gives more over tones rather than the fundamental "splash". Thinner hats and cymbals record better in my opinion and I find I don't have to fight the hi hat to get it in line with the rest of the kit. Sami is spot on with his comments on your vocal.

I like the song. You're vocals sound very cool to me. I've never heard Brazilian/Portugese (whatever you call it) accent on this style of music. It sounds really unique to me. Watch out for those "p" sounds though. The playing sounds really good. You might want to layer some extra guitar to give it some dynamic buildup toward the end.

Thanks for the reply folks !

TrackRat: We were talking about thinner cymbals some time ago. He is using a premier dum, those xpk series with 20'' bass drum and small tons. I think the place I've recorded it is not the better place in the house ( about 2 meters height ).
Thinner hi-hats like those quick beats may be best suitable for recordings. His cymbals are those b8 pro actually.

fprod south: I've been reading and testing about dynamic range, recording more guitars with less gain than the usual, and trying different mic placing. Dont know if its a good way to do it, but its giving some good results.

Of course, in my small recording setup, I think my mixer is the weakest link. After the conderser mic, I will put some money in a better mix.

thanks again for your time !
