i just put in a firewire card and this is the message i get

This device cannot start. (Code 10)

Click Troubleshoot to start the troubleshooter for this device.

can someone tell me how to fix the problem

is there a way to plug it in?????????????????????????????

Are you talking about a PCI Firewire card, so that you can plug in Firwire components to your computer? Did you happen to install the software drivers to your box before snapping in the card?

I'm not sure what specific problem your having here.

yea i took a PCI firewire card and put it in my computer and the message i get when i look at it in device manager is "the thing can't start"

A) Did you >really< need to curse in the thread title?

B) Did you read the installation instructions? Some cards need to have the drivers installed >before< you plug them in.

C) Did you get the latest drivers off the manufacturer's website? Disks in the box are notoriously old.

lol i didnt need to curse but its very frustrating

this is a card i bought about a year and a half ago and i no longer have the instructions and the only CD that came with it was a program (ulead movie studio to be exact)

normally windows just reckognizes it and installs it for ya but not on my computer

when i originally bought it i put it in a different computer and it worked just fine but now i need it so i took it out of the old one and put it in my newer computer and it reckonizes it but the damn thing just wont work

O!

i got it

i took the case off and i realized that when i put the card in i had to take my old soundcard out to make room for the firewire card

i had to pull a plug outta the soundcard when i was taking it out so i pluged that cord into the firewire card and now it works

hmmmmm never woulda thought of that

Ah, he gets it. Things need to be plugged in. Hooray for you! :D

I had to deal with that same exact message in the device manager for a week a few months ago. It drove me insane. Everyone kept telling me it was driver problems, but it wasn't. I took it to this computer guy at work and he fixed it. It was something like the plug and play function was off. Simple problems cause the most frusteration. Glad you got it working.

That of course translates into "the plug was off, doesn't function, plug it in and now it plays"

Us computer geeks mix words like that to make you think you're getting what you paying for.. I think the technical term for it is Technical Terminology..

It just blows folks over when ya tell 'em "their ISP was haiving an IRQ conflict that caused a SYNTAX error in the CMOS, so I adjusted their routing table to avoid packet collisions within the IDE ADA/ATAPI Controller subsystem and tweaked the PCMCIA adapter to be in spec with Microsoft ACPI Compliance settings and the Systems Management BIOS Drivers. After reseting the USB Open Host Controller the Terminal Server Device redirected itself and synced with the system timer".

This translates into "I ran Ad-Aware to get rid of the spyware you picked up from surfing porn sites and I'm charging you 8 hours labor plus expenses for it. See you again next month."
