Reluctant Commander
Well, the home made speaker cab is working.

Now that I can play the two speakers side by side, I can hear a subtle but real difference. The Celestion 70/80 (came out of the Vox) is just a hair louder, a hair more low end body to it, but it seems looser, like it makes it harder to control the sound of my guitar, like it doesn't "compress" so easily. It seems like it fatigues my ears more easily, more quickly.

The Weber Silver Bell (ceramic, that I put in the Vox) sounds more even, just ever so slightly compressed, and is more consistent sounding all the way up and down the neck. The lows sound just as tight and easy to control as the mids and the highs. It is smoother some how, easy to play, and less fatiguing to my ears! I can play it longer and listen to it longer.

I think part of the difference is due to the fact that the Celestion 70/80 is rated higher than the rms output of the amp (50 watt rms) while the Silver Bell is rated right at 50w, so the amp probably pushes the Silver Bell to it's limit a little more easily then it can push the Celestion. Just a guess, but it's probably valid.

The Celestion is not a bad speaker, not at all, but the Silver Bell has it's advantage! I have enough wood to build one more cab, slightly shorter and an inch or two wider, for a 2x10. I cant decide if I want to get two more Webers, or if I want to try a couple of Eminence in there......or even spring for a couple of Celestion Tube 10's.

Dammit! I thought I was going see the woodworking skills of a prostitute!

How much does she charge? How are her skills? Are the components a tight fit? How much excursion on the voice coil? Is it smooth?

Any info is appreciated.

All is glued and screwed, oak is to cover the screw holes, I put it inside by the Vox for side by side compares.

I had nothing but hand held tools, no plans, just kinda made it up as went along, worked out ok..... it looks better loud!
