okay here's my setup and problem.
i have a p4 2.5 ghz hp system running xp
aardvark direct pro 24/96
behringer composer pro-xl
behringer b-1 mic
fostex pm-1 moniters

the problem, i have no experience whatsoever with recording, i make beats (mostly r&b and hip hop) and i would send them to a friend who in turn would use them in recording. well he's sent off with the military so i got some of his stuff to use. okay so i've recorded a couple of tracks of vocals onto cakewalk pro audio and also some old magix software how do i moniter those recordings using the fostex pm-1's? where do i hook them up? i am currently connecting the b-1 mic directly into the aardvark card do i moniter the recording using the same card? also the composer pro-xl, how do i hook that up? i've tried from the mic to the composer to the aardvark but nothing no sound no levels moving on the mixer nothing. any help would greatly be appreciated.

The have not,

Gotta be honest here. I’m thinking you didn’t get too many responses because your thoughts were a little garbled. Next time, try slowing down and asking straightforward questions with short sentences. You’ll get more help if people understand what you want to know. I gave it a shot after I translated things a bit. Good luck with everything.

[My] problem [is] I have no experience with recording, I make beats and [in the past,] I would send them to a friend who in turn would use them in [a] recording. [Recently,] he [traveled away] to the military so I am [now] using some of his [equipment]. [In the meantime,] I've recorded a couple tracks of vocals onto cakewalk pro audio and also some old magix software.

How do I monitor those recordings using the Fostex pm-1's?

The aardvark direct pro 24/96 PCI card has two unbalanced aux RCA outs. I’m not familiar with the Fostex monitors but it’s not unusual for powered speakers to have ¼” unbalanced ins. What you could do is get two cables with rca males on one end and ¼” tip sleeve on the other end. The rca’s go into the PCI card and the ¼” go into the monitors.

Where do I hook them up?

See above.

I am currently connecting the b-1 mic directly into the aardvark card. Do I monitor the recording using the same card?

Yes. You listen to what is being recorded through the soundcard. The breakout box is your preamp.

also the composer pro-xl, how do i hook that up? I've tried [a signal chain going] from the mic to the composer to the aardvark but [hear] nothing. No sound. No levels moving on the mixer. Nothing.

Perhaps you should try adding the composer using the main outputs on the back of the breakout box. http://www.aardvarkaudio.com/aasd-v1/products/2496-main.html here’s the manufacturer’s page with descriptions of how your sound card works.

any help would greatly be appreciated.

I hope I helped.
