Hmm, I think this gear is right - complete studio

I was talking with a few people and this is what they suggested I need if I wanted to start out a studio - a base setup.

Sound card with MIDI in
Sound Console - Reccomended ROLAND SOUND CANVAS
DESK (Inputs - 8 because I'm not recording bands)

I already have a seperate MAC and software I can get easily. Already have a studio mic. I was quoted at around $4,000 for everything. What does everyone else here think?

What kind of studio mic? In what preamp? What kind of speakers?

Software - Logic,
Mic Rode Condensor Mic NT1 I believe? I'll have to recheck later on.
I was informed that the preamp came with either the sound canvas or the desk.

In regards to the speakers, I have surround speakers I could use - would anybody suggest different?

I want to have a set up which will allow me to produce originals demo quality - and later on, help out my friends do the same as well. Currently, I have the option of going to other producers and they charge approximately $600 and as I have written so many originals, it's most likely more cost effective to actually set up my own studio for the long term.
