hey guys, I am using a fast track ultra into pro tools mp and when i record bass directly every note sounds fine expect for the low e string. I hit the note and as it is resonating a hissing noise comes in. Does anyone know what this is? I am not sure if it is the bass pickups or what so i thought i'd ask. Thanks in advance.

That's pretty weird. That it comes from just the E string suggests something odd - maybe your interface isn't handling the low end!

I have pretty much the same setup. Are you going direct in to your fast trak, or micing the amp? I go DI and it seems to work pretty well, but try knocking back on the volume on your bass, and using a shorter/better cable and that might help it. If the bass is too quiet, you can probably pump it up on protools, but I have never had too many issues with a too-quiet bass. Also, I have had good experience recording with all the lights/amps/speakers off (just using headphones for tracking) and the cutback on ambient electricity seems to help the noise, but that might be a quirk of my less-than-ideal room...

Filth in your electronics, bad patch cable, I have a fast track ultra and it's relatively low-noise as long as you're not cranking the gain, so I doubt it's in the interface.

If it's not a horrible hiss then just slap a noise gate on it. I get minor hissing with my bass tracks (especially after squashing them with compression) so throwing a noise gate on the bass isn't an oddity in my mixes.
