Okay... Go easy on me because this is my first attempt at something like this. I don't really know what to call it. It's kind of a mix of Hip Hop/Metal/Industrial/Techno. It's pretty heavy, though.

I used Adobe Audition to record it. Casio WK3000 for the synths, bass and the drums. Fernandes Dragonfly (Drop B) and Digitech RP50 for the guitar. I put the whole thing together in less than 5 hours. The song is loop based and I found that it worked really well for this kind of application.

At first, I was going to make a straight up Hip Hop beat and see if some rappers could put some words to it but it started to grow and I kind of took it into another direction. I think that it reflects my personality. It's also got a little video game vibe to it. Or maybe something that could be in a new age horror movie. Here's the link:

So, tell me what you think.

Oh, and if any of you are interested, feel free to try your hand at doing vocals for this. I'd like to see what you can come up with. (just for fun)

Anyone? Anyone? Not even a "Goddamn, that suxxx!!!!11!!111!"? Oh well.

"Goddamn, that suxxx!!!!11!!111!"

Just joking...Hard to evaluate something without vocals. Unless it's supposed to be an instrumental. I like the moods and dramatic-ness of this, it's pretty heavy. I don't like the drum sound at all, especially those high hats, alot of mids...Your other choices of sounds are good, I find. It might be my player, but it seems to be distorting. But it opened in WMP and I never listen to anything in WMP so, like I said, it might be the player. With the right vocalist and lyrics, this could be a killer tune, because has a very heavy, sinister feel to it...good work.

Do you think that if I tweaked the EQ of the hi hats, they's sound better? Maybe drop the mids a bit and boost the highs? And what didn't you like about the drums? Was it the way they were mixed or was it just the drum sounds?

I'd have to agree that it does have a dark, sinister sound. I was kind of going for that. I'm not sure if you're familiar with his work but I'd like to think that a little inspiration from Danny Lohner had a hand in this.

Did you listen to this with headphones on? If you did, what did you think of the stereo "flutter" on the synth in the break? I think it came out well. Also, do you think there is too much low end?

No vocals yet. I don't think that I could do the song justice. I have too much of a mellow voice for what this would call for. But like I said, if anyone wants to give it a shot just for fun, go right ahead. I'd be honored.

Thanks for listening to my song.

P.S.

I'm actually listening to it through WMP and there is no distortion at all. Maybe it was just your version or something... Who knows.

I'm at a friend's place with no speakers, so I'll give it another listen with headphones in about an hour when I get home...I think it was just my player. I heard somoene else's stuff through WMP a few days ago and thought it sounded really weird intil I heard it in Realplayer and noticed it was fine, that's why I think it's just my WMP. As far as the hats, yeah, I'd say just drop the mids...That might be enough, you might not need to boost the high's...I'll check it out again later.

Yup...just as I thought...Sounds AMAZING on REALPLAYER. There's something wrong with my WMP. This is really cool, man...I still say the hats can lose some mids and be crispier, but they're not as bad as I first thought. Besides that, I LOVE this. Love the heavy parts. I even love the keyboards, and anyone that knows me would tell you that I HATE most keyboards. I hear the synth flutter in the breaks which is too cool. You have a human voice type sound happening that also kiks. Great dynamics from heavy to mysterious...Really like it. Needs vocals, or even some haunting rap like Snoop's "Murder was the Case"...Great work!!!

God Damn. That sucks. :)

heh heh..

Interesting, sounds like it should be in a Matrix movie. Not at all a fan of the drum sounds, especially the hihats, they are to pronounced and too midrange-fat, IMHO. The guitars are wonderfully crunchy and full. Sinister is an excellent word.

Good work, keep plugging, keep refining... you have the skills...

Nice tune - groovin and danceable with a nasty edge with those guitar parts coming in occasionally. Nice thick synth bass. Lots of interesting parts in the tune.

Vocals would add another dimension I guess but it can stand very much on it's own as an instrumental.

The synth stereo flutter was cool during the break - it's a cool effect!.

Nothing much to say here it's all good ! :D

Reeeeemiiiiixx!!!

Thanks so much for the replies. I'm glad you all liked the song.

As you all suggested, I went back in and did some tweaking on the hi hats. I also boosted the highs on the drums because they sounded a little dull to me. I did some level adjusting and some panning on a few pieces and did a little remixing with the drums and some other parts.

I can't really explain all of what I did but you'll understand when you hear it. I think it came out a lot better than before.

It seems a lot clearer but still maintains it's mystique and edgyness. Here's the link:

Again, thanks for the tips and replies.

Did anyone listen to the remixed version? Is it okay? How were the hats? Did you notice the subtle stereo differences I added to them?

Listening now...Yeah, 100 times better. They sound way less clangy. Everything else sounded good already. I love this tune, man. Great groove and feel to it. Are there 2 high hats? Or is the 1,2,3,4 panned in the middle? Either way, they sound way better now.

I'm listening to the second mix. Nice sounds. I like the bass sounds. Nice thump. Nice guitar in there. Very industrial sounding. Fits well with the drums. This tune needs lyrics. It has a really cool vibe. If you don't sing, gbav does some really cool stuff, and sings in a manner that would fit this tune very nicely.
Cool stuff.

There's actually 3 hats! The 1,2,3,4 is dead center. The off beat one is panned 50% to the right and the one in the hook (8ths) is panned 50% to the left. Durring the second and third hook, all three are playing at the same time. So are the two different drum loops. In the first verse and the first intro, only the two hats are playing and only one drum loop. I had the two drum loops play at the same time in the 2nd and 3rd hook for a dramatic effect. It gives the song that FUCK YEAH!!! feel. Anyway, I'm glad you liked it. BTW, I'm working on a sequel for it right now!

I wish I could mix this into Dolby Digital 5.1 but Adobe Auidition doesn't support that. I must say, though... It sounds awesome in Dolby Pro Logic II Music! Can you guys think of anything else that would sound good in this? I was thinking that some quiet whispers would sound cool. Maybe if they fluxuated from left to right. Maybe even backwards... Ooooo! What do you think?

Just saw this can't understand how i missed the word industrial in a title. Really like the improvement in the latest mixes. Loving when the guitars jump in. Good layering, especially towards the end i dig those sounds. Reminds me a bit of razed in black. Hope to hear more man.

Take care

Thanks a lot. I'm really trying to stick to this genre of music since I seem to be good at it. I notice, though, that I keep bouncing back and forth from Industrial Metal and Alternative Rock... I guess I'll never settle on just one. If only I could find a way to mix the two... Oops! NIN already did that. I will definitely keep you all posted on any more music I create.
