Hello,

I have an MPC 2000 and it doesn't have any effects built into it. I want to be able to make my drum sounds encompass the entire speaker. I notice when mixing my drum sounds in with my music they don't mix. The drums sound real low and they don't have an after sound like a short reverb. The result of this is my drum sounds start from the center(low) and continue to stay that way. The mix as you would imagine just doesn't cut it. I need to know what type of product i need to get in order for my drum sounds to mix right. Note: I only have an MPC 2000 and a tape and cd player. What other equipment do I need to make my music come alive. Thank you!

Hey Brism,

I do Hip Hop production, and I have worked with an MPC before. If you can't afford to get the effects board, I would say try and get a reverb box. I also have a sampler, and I use it basically as a drum machine, sampling drums from old hip hop records, actual drums and any decent sounding synthesizers I can get my hands on. I have the Alesis Nanoverb, but the reverbs aren't that good, but it was a good place for me to start, because it fit my budget when I bought it. I haven't heard the effects on the MPC, but I'd assume that they're good. If there's a Sam Ash near you go there and talk to somebody about this, or any other music store that carries the MP.

Also about the level of your drums, see if you can either sample the sounds louder or if you can do something like normalization in the editing window. Or try adujusting the levels on the onboard mixer. Or turn the velocity on or off. When I played with the MP, I turned the velocity off and it gave me a sound I wanted for one song, but then I turned it off and it gave me more control over the drums for the next song which needed a little variation in volume.

I hope this helps

peace,
da muzicman
