Hip hop beats RTAS?

If you want to sequence your drum beats in ProTools then I'd recommend something like Steinberg's Halion (VST) or Native Instruments Battery (VST, RTAS) or even Kontakt (VST, RTAS).
But if you want to use something else for sequencing I'd go with Fruityloops (VST). That thing is pretty fine for creating drum grooves.

These are interfaces that allow PTLE to use VST instruments and they are free.
Match those with some free or even cheap VSTis and you can do damage.
Also look into PlugSound. It's a very powerful and inexpensive sample playback program that fits into PTLE. It's $99.00, powerful and scomes with a strong Hophop and R&B toolkit collection.
