Somehow Guitar tracks pro three via its clumsy user has accidentally made listening to audio form sources other than GTpro3 impossible. Media player won't produce audio etc.. Have called Cakewalk they are absolved because GTP3 works just fine. I have done the following troubleshooting: Reboot, check all volume controls, switched from VIA 97 audio card to SB 16pci (both on board) and rebooted. Gone through control panel, sound and audio, everything checks out there. I am at a loss. Please help. Note that before GTP3 everything played back fine. Also went to sound recorder to play back audio track (wav), player runs but no audio. Thanks.

its probably not gt's error. youve reset something.
make sure in windows vol control in the recording dialogue you donr have line in muted. and wave out fader is up as well as line in fader.
also note...if your using mic in of sb - its very poor audio quality.
worse than line in.
al;so - did you remember to tell gt which drivers to use.
with respect sb are not great cards for recording. your not doing justice to your songs.
search under my name for lots of tips posted in past year.

Not sure about GT, but Sonar has an option to "Share Drivers with Other Programs." You might want to look for this option and select it.

However, this should only be an issue if you are trying to use another sound source WHILE GT3 is open. If you simply boot the computer and try and run media player (or something else) and you get nothing, then I don't believe this is your problem.

do any other media players work other than windows (eg winamp etc)? i read a post not too long ago that windows media player won't let you pick your routing for I/O but other programs will.

Thanks to all!

In response, I am not running GT3 while attempting to run another app using the sound card. I ahve rasied all volume faders and wav output level/fader etc. have rebooted and did in fact find the "share soundcard with other programs, it is checked. I am certain at this point that GT3 is not per se the root cause of the problem, but maybe I did something when I installed that acaused the pc not to recognize the sound card. To address the I/O issue I will try winamp (if I have it) or will download and try. It seems likely that since I installed GT3 I have messed up some DMA or IRQ thing. Will try winamp. I to think that may shed some light on the issue. And finally yes SB sucks and will continue to suck on my system until January 2005 when the $$ begins to flow again, must be somewhat responsible. To Manning1 which drivers do you mean? Is this where the ASIO and whatisit other called things are in charge? Will check you past posts, I hope it is the Windows Media Player having probs, I hate that thing and would rather use Winamp. I guess if you are really bored or tripping the graphics are ok. I always wondererd if the "Bars and Graphs" visual bore an accurate rendition of a 1/3 ovatave RTA. Let me know. Last but not least, where can I get a free or very cheap white and pink noise generator plugin? Be well all.

I had a similar issue about a month ago. GT3 worked fine but for some reason I couldn't hear anything out of Winamp (it would play the song, but no sound). Can't remember if I tried Media Player.

Anyway I fixed it by going into Winamp Preferences, and flicking things on and off under audio options or something. Sorry can't remember the details, but have a look at your audio options in media player. There should be some switch in there you can just turn on again

Thanks Bulls Hit! Sounds like somethng similar, I will try that in media player until totally frustrated or victorious.

thurgood. its been mine and others finding that some media players can be quite intrusive. try some of the smaller free ones you find at download.com and hitsquad.com. look for a smallish exe. friends of mine have found fewer
problems than with winamp etc. just an idea.

Have you gone into Control Panel and made sure you have the right sound card selected under Sounds and Audio Devices.

HEy out there! I finally got the media player to work. had to adjust Media player settings, It was defaulting (on boot) to wrong output device. BTW I do have win amp but the "skin" is so freaky and cluttered I can't even turn it on. Guess I don't have to now that Media Player is secured. Thanks to all for your help.
