anyone have any high quality free drum samples I can use for triggers? particularly a great kick sound! this is for pop/rock sort of thing... I suppose I could take samples from professionally recorded tracks, but I was wondering if anyone has had experience with this - do you have any you've made yourself or have you found a great midi/soundfont/whatever?

Hmm, not sure if there is but if they have a demo you could just demo it and swipe what you wanted no?

Yeh,that's an idea. I'm going to go through all my old magazines that came with tons of free cds full of crap plug-ins and samples,. I hope i havent chucked them :s

to be honest I wouldn't REALLY know what some great drum samples sound like... that's kind of why I posted it here... =\

ahhh, well surely if you like the sound if it then it's good?

Well ive been scouring the internet recently looking for good kick samples, i've founs many many electronic/techno ones, many rock ones...but they're all poop.

I'll keep looking but if anybody can recommend a site that hosts some good kick samples then PLEASE post them here.

thankyou :D

They're not free either... but thanks. i'll have a look and find out how cheap, 'cheap' is.

drummerdude, if you find anything let me know please! I'll be searching too, especially for kick drum. if not maybe we can make our own library?

Sure mate, i already have a collection of over 100. But most are techno...

You're looking for a thumpy rock kick? Once i've found some then i'll let you know. I'd appriciate if you could let me know if you find any nice ones. I'm currently designing my new studio site, and i'm going to add a page for recording tips ive found very useful, a kick sample library would be a good addition, make sure you note down where you got each sample from so we can ask them, and then link to them. That way we wont get in shit.

mmk... will do. by the way, is it legal to take samples from songs. say for instance there is an isolated kick drum in one song... can I use it? not sure if it's legal or not... since it's not technically representative of the song or something. does anyone know?

I think if it's not recognisable then you're ok. I was reading an article recently about a producer who made an entire album of samples from others' stuff and only had to pay for one or two of them before it was released on a major label.
