High quality 8 tracks and 16 tracks

I just picked up an Ampex AG400 1" 8 Track. I know this is a classic workhorse of a machine. Net net, including shipping (the thing weighs a ton), it cost me $1,700 bills. Anyone know if I got used?

I'm wondering if I should have held out for a decent 2" 16 track. What are they going for these days?

Any feedback on the AG440 or 2" 16 track pricing would be helpful. thanks

Wow, you are a lucky SOB. That is one hell of a machine to slam sound into. A 2" 16 track would be the ultimate in my opinion.

I don't know too much about the pricing but I would just love the hell out of that machine and forget about the $.

Post some music in the mp3 clinic when you start recording, I am way interested.
