Hey everyone,
I'm trying to follow the 'record it how you want it to sound' philosophy, so I'm toying with my guitar amp trying to get the right tone. I found I needed to turn the high end up a bit (higher than I would put it if I were playing a show, for example) or the recording would be dead in that region. The only problem is that this is creating an occasional loud clicking sound when my hand and the pick hit the strings. I imagine that sound was always there, but it's magnified by the high end boost.
I've tried getting it out with compression and EQ (which didn't work at all) and with volume envelopes (which worked very well but only half the time). Anyone have any suggestions about how I could set things up differently to prevent this sound from showing up, or what I could tweak to eradicate it in the mix?
Just for background, I'm using two sm-57s close up on the grill and near the center, going through an Aardvark Q10 into Cakewalk PA9.
Thanks, Peter
