Hi folks,
I wanted to find out if it's okay to put some links to raw tracks and mix stems from a web series I help produce.
I'm a musician and producer from Philadelphia. The non-profit is called Weathervane Music. The purpose of the organization is to make up for the fact that the industry no longer invests in the early stages of musicians' careers. Our solution is to build stronger community and more opportunities to participate in music from multiple angles. Our first project is called Shaking Through and for it, we partnered with a public radio station in Philly called WXPN. The series brings 10 emerging independent artists per year (we're in our 2nd full year) from around the world into a high-end studio in Philadelphia to record a new song over a 2-3 day recording session. It's shot in high quality video focused on the ""birth of a song"" both from the artists' perspective and from the perspective of the people who record it. It is amazing for everyone involved, and the videos are excellent.
We want to share the raw multitracks and mixstems. Frankly, people can do with them what they want (there's a creative commons license on the page), but we hope they will remix and share them with one another. Perhaps some amazing remixes will come about that are better than ours... perhaps some will scramble them up beyond recognition... whatever happens happens. I do think that home recordists could learn a tremendous amount from them (I know I could have skipped ahead several years in my own development if I only could have seen professionally recorded tracks first hand).
First, I'm wondering if this okay as far as HomeRecording.com's rules of usage (we do own and control the rights to all the recordings), and then I'm hoping you can recommend for me which of your forums would be the appropriate place to start a thread as we release each new project? Please let me know what you think! And don't be afraid to say this isn't the right place for that... Thanks for your time!
