Havent been around here much lately. Just got my computer fixed and am getting my studio hooked up again. Questions:

I am getting dropouts. Do I move the buffer thingee to the left (faster)?

Instrument Definitions for a Roland JV-1010, where do I get em?

I am using Home studio 2002. Looks just like SONAR, any differences?

Good to see you up and about, and recording and posting again.

Generally you want to increase your latency to resolve dropouts. That would mean moving the thingee to the right. (l love it when you talk technical. :) ) You can also try raising the number of buffers.

This assumes you have done other things first, like eliminate all programs running in the background. Update to latest drivers. Etc.

Actually, YOU are the culprit. I was loading the CD you sent me and it's your tune that causes dropouts. I usually work with 16-bits, yours is 24. My computer is a Celeron 566 with Windows 98. I'm ashamed, hold me :(

What is DMA, and how do I enable it?

My computer died; I got it going again, but I had to wipe everything out and start from scratch. I wanna do your tune and a Zappa with Al Chuck. Alan, if you are reading this, send me your tune and parts and I will finally get a quality violin part. I am going on 7 months sober, getting back to music again.

I gotta do this, I probably have all kinds of stuff running.

I have them, don't remember where I got em. Give me your email address and I'll email them to you.

AlChuck here, dude...

Let me wrap that file back up and send you the tracks... I'll see if I can do it this evening and get it off to you. PM or email me with your email address if it's a new one...

There's a Roland.INS file that has the JV-1010 definitions you want. Mine is in C:Program FilesCakewalkSONAR 3 Studio EditionSample Content

I don't remember how to check if DMA is enabled -- it's not an issue any more with XP -- but if you search through this site you should be able to find out from an older post. Otherwise I'm sure there are a lot of folks here still using Win98...
