So i've been wanting to learn how to sing for a really long time. I sing everyday in the shower or to music and I've gone through the "i hate my voice in recording" phase.
Most of the listening public do not know that when a vocals are recorded ALOT is done to it to make it sound "commercial" ALOT do not get discouraged. Engineers are 90% of the reason Singers sound good. Yes I said 90%
I like singing to maroon 5 but adam levine's voice is so freaking high.
Adams found himself, you have to find yourself, trying to pantomime someones singing voice is like trying to be born as another person. Its impossible the best you can do is you and NO ONE! can do you better NO ONE!. So find yourself your voice, your range, your comfort zone, not to stay in a box but to build a foundation. So many people never find the themselves cause they spend time trying to identify with another. Jus cause you like an artist dosent mean you can or should try to sing like them. A young artist's biggest mistake. Find YOU! and you will be the best you can be trust me! With these thoughts you can become a true STAR..

I sing into my laptop microphone and my voice is so dull and feels like there is no life in it. I feel like i am in tune most of the time and I have the ear to fix myself after I record myself (since i play piano) but i feel like i sing so much and i don't even know if i'm doing it right.
First, NEVER QUIT, you get better every time trust and believe that. Again singers have top notch engineers that makes their (
at first) dull vocals sound AMAZING!! So please do not get discouraged. Every single song the singers voice is put into perfect tune by the engineers EVERY SINGER! EVERY SONG! Jacyen Joshua (I run my vocal tracks through pitch & note correction every singer is ran through pitch correction so that every word in the song is sung perfectly in pitch and note signature. Without it a song nowadays feels like its missing something)
Recently i had a small discovery of squeezing my diaphragm and creating a small vibrato in my voice which was pretty interesting.
Lol sorry to embark on your recent small discovery but using your diaphragm to sing and not you (chest, shoulders, back neck, arms eyelids) has been taught as the correct way to sing for centuries so that is good. Side Note: Dont let small details like diagram singing hold back emotion and creativity. Songs where singers go out of breath brings a sense of realism and emotion to some tracks
Another question is that I don't know the difference between head voice and all that stuff but when i sing high it sounds ok and in tune to me but when i record it it sounds horrible. Also my voice is not too low but not high so i don't know what my singing voice is.. Help please

thanks
(I completely understand your dilemma the sound in your head and how you want the sound to be recorded and feel just quite dosent sound that way when you record and print that vocal to your DAW! Lol, ohhh the I hate the way I sound but I am a good singer live dilemma lol)
Sounds like you need to sing into your mic MORE! and listen MORE. Use headphones while playback, mute music and listen and sing along without music and with. Do multiple takes and then playback try different ranges and pitches and listen to yourself in every detail. This is the first step of finding your self, get comfortable with YOU! first. Get use to hearing yourself through a mic and in a DAW its a lil different feeling. So my advice to that SING MORE!! GET USED TO IT!
Voice to High to Low...Petty minor details, high and low shouldn't dictate your singing. YOU SHOULD! Its about feeling! What do YOU FEEL!!?? If you feel you should go high to bring out the drama of a chorus do that if you feel like you should bring in the suspense and go low in a verse do that. What does the song tell you? What does your heart tell you when you sing that song?
Bottom Line KEEP SINGING TILL YOU FIND YOUR SELF!
