Just got firepod with cubase LE and am totally clueless. Don't know the first thing bout recording hardware or software. tomorrow I will have some questions. So tonight I thank the forum in advance.......

Hi, i don't consider myself an expert but this could be a help.

1. Hook up everything.
2. Run Cubase (I'm using Cubase SX3) Choose a template - empty would be ok.
3. Insert new track. Choose Audio or midi.
4. Click on the record button and you record your voice or instrument.
5. Once you record few tracks and you want it to be exported to wav (mix).
Go to file -> export -> Mix song (or something). Make sure you select the range of your song.

There you go!

* Setting the tempo of your song would be helpful. Press Ctrl+T to add the tempo track, then adjust it.

My obligatory standard reply that I keep in Wordpad:

Immediately get a good beginner recording book (spend $20 before spending hundred$/thousand$) that shows you what you need to get started and how to hook everything up in your studio:
Home Recording for Musicians by Jeff Strong - $15
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/07...ce&n=283155&n=507846&s=books&v=glance
(Wish I'd had that when I started; would have saved me lots of money and time and grief)

Good Newbie guide that also explains all the basics:
http://www.tweakheadz.com/guide.htm

Other recording books:

Cubase Stuff You Need To Look At In A Bookstore:

Cubase SX/SL Power by Robert Guerin - $23
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/15...f=pd_bbs_3/103-5858248-0543050?_encoding=UTF8

Cubase SX Ignite by Grebler and Hawkins - $15

I replaced my Tascam 428 with a new Firepod...........I had to go to Presonus Firepods web site and download the latest drivers before it would even show up in Cubase SX3 I am sure LE will need the udated driver too. Or you will spend lots of time trying to making the Firepod show up in Cubase to chooce it as your hardware, but it will not be there listed as it should. At least that was my situation. The site for getting the latest files for the Firepod for windows and macintosh is here.

If there's something yo just don't understand, don't give up. The first time I used Cubase, I couldn't get any playback. I was in front of my computer for about five hours cursing the software, cursng the computer, punching the monitor, and on the verge of crying.

.........Then I finally turned the volume knob on my monitors up, and it was all good :D

Everyone, Newbies & Pros alike, will agree that our software is not for the faint of heart. There are going to be times you will be convinced you got a bum piece of software and there's no help available. Many of the times the answer is very simple and right in front of your face. The best thing to do in these cases is walk away for a couple of hours then come back and look at the problem again. You'll be suprised at your problem solving ability once you've rested your brain.

If you just get stuck, search the forum for old threads that might have a solution to your problem. If that doesn't work, post a new thread. Don't be alarmed if you get the "Oh, here's another newbie who can't read a manual" routine. However, there are guys like Noisewreck on this forum who are very helpful and willing to part with their knowledge without making you feel like a complete IDIOT. Just remember to be thankful for their help and advice. (too many times i have seen posters who get their quick fix and never bother to thank the folks who gave them the answers)

Most important is don't be discouraged if you run into problems.

I have been learning Cubase for years.....started with Cubasis the bottom of the line...and moved up to what I am using now Cubase SX3. I still have times that I could distroy Cubase and my computer. Just yesterday I could not get cubase to record my input signals........ONLY to find out after several explosions of my temper that I was pressing the PLAY Button instead of the RED RECORD Button in Cubase.......just another example of ME making the mistake, not Cubase. Nothing in the computer field is fool proof, including the person using the software and computer.
