Hi All! Any suggestions on my vocals on this track?

Thanks! I got feedback from someone who said the vocals are the "Achilles heel of this song just due to the varying degrees of performance and many out of tune parts.". Have I been listening too long and don't hear it? Are the vox that bad? (i'm the singer ;-).

Whatever. It's a solid performance.

You have several flat notes so I can understand why the negative feedback.
BUT - this is a power vocal track which is difficult to hit when you're constantly pushing your voice to it's limit. All I can say is practice and listen. Any live performance will have it's flaws, studios a bit less so don't take it too hard - just keep practicing. You have a good strong. classic voice.

The problem with this track is the processing. The vocal is workable, but I would record it with no effects, eq or compression. Remix the instruments, cutting a -3db hole in the backing guitar for the vocal to sit in. Use a high Q setting and sweep to find the sweet spot. Next, mix in the vocal dry. Then pocket the vocal, add some compression 2 or 3 to 1 is all you should need. Stay away from reverb. Force yourself to achieve a mix using only eq, compression and fader levels. Also, the drum track is a bit distorted for my taste. As far as the vocal being a bit flat in places, some of the classic tracks in rock and roll were flat. Music is about feel and I like where you are going with this. Truth is I could mix this song and they wouldn't hear a flat note. In this day and age, you can also use Melodyne or an equivalent. That said, pitch tuning is an art and using it wrong it takes the feel right out of the tune. I hope this helped
