HGR Music 2488 video adapter - Top Notch

Can't say enough about the folks at HGR Music. :thumbs up: From the quick response to technical and availability questions through order processing and delivery, these guys shine! Steve informed me that prices will probably be going up on the next batch manufactured as the cost of components is rising. So I ordered two, one for my MKI and the Neo as well. They were nice enough to combine shipping as well, not an insignificant savings to the US from GBR.

Shipping took a while, but with the tracking info provided by HGR I finally located the parcel. Seems the US Postal Service had the package in an "unidentified safe location" for a week. Why it takes a week to get from NYC to Nashua, NH I have no idea. And the USPS ain't sayin'. Only took two more days to get here to Texas from there. So if you live in NYC you'll get your adapter from Great Britain in about three days. The rest of the country, good luck. Like I said, great service from HGR and the Royal Mail. The USPS,... eh.

Installation was easy, exactly as portrayed in the instructions. The adapters work just as advertised. All in all, I'm very pleased. It's great to be able to see the display with these old eyes. Now I just need to locate a couple cheap flat panel monitors. Looks like they don't even make 4X5 displays anymore. I've started haunting the recycle houses for scrapped units.

My recommendation is if you have a 2488, get the adapter. You eyes will love you for it. :)

I was just wondering if you or anyone else has heard if TASCAM will include a HDMI connection on the next iteration of the 2488? I mean how hard can it be and it would be a very smart thing for them to do.
 
Rick - can only agree with you - I have had one of these cards for about 18+ months. Best thing I have ever bought for the Tascam. Why Tascam doesn't get together with HGR I have no idea...

Since I have a 2488neo I am very interested, but trying for the fourth time I can't get to HGR's website.

Could you guys describe more about this? Especially about installing it. Do I have to solder or just switch an internal plug? Do I have to cut a hole in the Tascam for the adapter?

Do I get color?
 
David. Intalation is very easy. It more of a case of plugging bits in. No soldering required. It took me about half an hour to install, but I was going slow so as not to miss any steps out. I installed it into my 2488Neo
Mine is just a white on black colour but I understand you can now get different colours. You'll need to go to the website for better details.
I use an old TFT monitor and needed to get an adapter to connect the card to the screen. I think they include one or maybe you can add it to your purchase. Again, uou'll need to check the website.

Still the same blasted thing.

I use http://www.hgr2488(dot)co.uk/ and it just keeps telling me IE can't display the webpage. [replace (dot) with a dot of course] Firefox doesn't solve it. And I'm not having any problems with any other webpage I want to visit either.

This is really really frustrating.
 
I'm having the same problem trying to reach HGR web site. Timeout, reset connection, for a week now. I'm trying from south Florida.

I'm wondering if is not the hyper traffic at England because of Olympic Games :-)

I'm sorry to hear that david42 and ardstudio have been having problems viewing our web site. I've just checked the logs and we haven't experienced any downtime in the last few weeks so I'm not sure what could be causing your problems.

The HGR2488 is a really nicely thought out addition to anyone's 2488. I hope the HGR folks will consider a version for the DP24 as well. Unfortunately (like david42 and ardstudio) I cannot access the HGR website either. I used to be able to (visit the site) without issue. For the last month (or so) I cannot get there either by Internet Explorer OR Firefox. Weird. Perhaps we "yanks" DID break the internet:D. Oh well.

I just tried the HGR site and it's all working OK (but I'm in the UK :guitar:) . I saw that they also have units advertised on eBay. Search eBay for HGR-2488 (best to use worldwide search).

They seem to be a very friendly bunch, so just e-mail them and ask for the installation instructions if you can't get to their web site.

Just tried their link from here in Texas. No problems. I'm using Google Chrome, but also tried Internet Exploder as well. All good.

We have a video on YouTube of the HGR-2488 installed and displaying its video output on a 15inch LCD monitor but unfortunately I'm being told that I can't include the link here untill I've posted 10 messages to the forum but if you search HGR2488 on YouTube it should be at the top of the list.

Hi Cratinus,

We have spoken about a version for the DP-24. The existing HGR-2488 is not compatible and will need a major redesign. I think that we will need to see an established user base for the DP-24 before we launch a compatible version as in the current economic climate I think that it may be difficult to recoup the developement costs.

I am still trying to find out why some visitors from the United States being blocked from accessing our web site. The problem only seems to be affecting a few people as we are still receiving orders from the USA. As soon as have an answer I will post a message on the forum.

I'm not sure I could post the installation PDF since it's not a pic or vid, but I wanted to if anyone can explain how?

Seems with the internet issues others might be interested in the installation too. It looks pretty easy to do, and to answer my own question, the cable passes through a vent.
