Post your studio pic here.

In fact, I'll post one too... It's a corner of my unfinished studio... You guys don't get to see my control room though... Not yet anyway...

Nice looking drum set.

Here's the one I hope to build soon.

What I'm using now isn't really a studio; more like a room I have in my house:

My favorite piece of gear.

That's an exterior wall... So what's NOT on that wall?

First we have the exterior house wood paneling. Then a non-insulated standard 4" wall. Then an insulated (703) standard 4" wall. Then 3/4" plywood on the inside of another standard 4" wall frame, but positioned to form a triangle with the insulated wall with a 1' gap at its tip. On the other side (the side you can see), that's 3/4" HDF board with a 2X4 fastened vertically in the center to each of the HDF. Memtech Sound Barrier was fastened edge to edge of the HDF on that side.

Yep, DAMN massive wall + air space + air-tight = Soundproofing.

If only I could have afforded to do that to EVERY wall... And pro doors!!!

This wall will soon be 100% covered in Auralex MiniFusors.

Nice looking piano!

Hello Weston, I don't know why you don't want to show the control room. I would be proud if it were me. Everybody, Westons control room is WAAAAAY COOOOOL, (he's just modest:) Hope you don't mind that westen. I've seen it and its great. Sounds great too! So is your band. How ya doin Weston? Got some sessions happening this week? Thanks alot for havein me over. I enjoyed the hell out it. Old farts like me don't get out much anymore. Anyway, have a great week.

You're not typing in the vB Code right.
Do it like this:

no spaces though.

here's mine. :-) I, on the other hand, WILL show you my control room, however it's currently looking rather like the emperor's new clothes. It's right about where that roll of neoprene is...

Hey alex, is that an iso booth on the left? got any more pics?

Thanks Michael, I've got it now. All it took was reading what vb code is and listening to my wife:D I thought that was some kind of programming code:rolleyes:

Dan,

That jut-out on the left is just the entrance cubicle. Separates the "jam room" off from what will be my wife's future home office. Here's a plan for the whole thing.

Attachment didn't take. Let's try that again.

Looking good Don.

I'll be constructing walls in about 3 months. Do you work for beer and pizza? Unlimited of both?

<smile>

I do. Except for beer. Make that pink grapefruit juice and a dash of Mountain dew, and I'm on my way, hammer and saw in hand.:D

Just about through with the insulation in the live room (exterior walls). Just a couple of small patches left. Neccesary equipment for stapling the insulation - an electric staplegun. My hand lasted about 30 minutes with the manual stapler.

My son set up an amp, CD player and a couple of Peavey SP2's inside. We cranked up the bass to find rattles in the outside (metal) walls (this is like a Butler building). The we went around and tightened up the sheet metal screws where the metal was buzzing. I highly recommend this for anyone putting a studio in a metal building before the sheetrock goes up. I tapped in thin wood shims at 2 places where the buzzing was really bad. These were placed between the horizontal beams and the sheet metal. The buzzing is another reason I'll be putting up resilient channel even though the other side is the building exterior. I've pretty much got it tamed but I believe the RC will add a little insurance.

I was really surprised at how the insulation has taken so much ring/flutter out of the room. I know that'll change somewhat when the sheetrock goes up.

My son's band plans on practicing in there Tuesday night. This should be interesting. I'll take some pictures to post here.

Oh yeah Frederic - I hope to never build something like this again. It's like building a damn house except you know EVERY detail. It will drive you absolutely crazy!! I will be taking someones recommendation from another thread and have a pro do the mud and taping of the sheetrock. One of the rock bands I've recorded has offered their services when sheetrock time comes. 2 work in home construction with one experienced in mud and tape.

Hello DD, say, I realized I must have gotten threads "crossthreaded"(the one about cable troughs)That was Dan Merrils, and I confused it with yours. Sorry about that.
I know what you mean about taping and mud. It sucks. Just did my kitchen and shot my whole interior with texture myself. What a joke. Never again while I live in it. The worst nightmare you can imagine. BTW, what did you use for tape on the metal skin dampeners. I used some duct tape on my metal shed, but the heat of the sun melted that type of adhesive, and it ALL came loose:eek: I went back and used that aluminum tape for ducts. Much better stick. Anyway, keep us posted and good luck with the room. Oh, I hear that Golds foot powder works for insulation scratchys.:D

After years of having tape and mud fall off the walls (even after painted), I got smart a few years ago and hung my own sheet rock, but hired someone to come in and tape. When I lived in CT I found a 80 something year old guy that used to be a professional plasterer/sheetrock guy and he gave me very reasonable rates. usually $15 an hour plus beer. Worked for me. Its done right, its done cheaply, and I never have to think about it again.

I need to find a guy just like him in NJ :)

I can monkey my way through a lot of things, but taping is not one of them sad to say. I did a bathroom wall in this house when we first moved here, and within three months the tile, backing, and taping just started to come off.

In frustration I got pissed and glued it all back with structural adhesive, but that didn't come out too good. So, I hired someone, which is what I should have done in the first place.

So much for my usual tagline of "Cheap overcomes many faults". :)
