I'm getting ready to build two single 12 cabs for my Epi Valve Jr. ( and also for use with other heads)

For aesthetic and space reasons I'd like them to be exactly as wide as the Valve Jr. which is 14" wide. So they'd be 14"x 14" x 16".
Now a 12" will just fit in a cab that size.
Since they are gonna be open-back cabs, is there a problem with making them that narrow as far as rolling off excessive low end or affecting the sound?

I am planning to make them deeper than normal (probably around 16" deep) to add a little volume to the cabs. But I'm not sure how much cab volume or baffle width affects the sound in an open back cab if at all.

A normal, open-back cabinet (8" to 10" deep)starts to roll off around 90 Hz - about where the guitar low E is. Going deeper will lower where the speaker starts to roll off, but it shouldn't be very important for guitar.

I would just build a cabinet that's aesthetically pleasing to you and don't worry about it - it'll work fine.
