I say try the room, see how good or bad it sounds plain (keep the recording for a referance/comparison) then as you notice something that you don't like or just plain sounds bad come back and address one specific problem at a time. I'm fairly certain diffusors and traps will both be to your advantage but for now check the room (listen carefully) and decide what needs the most work and tackle one problem at a time. A good sounding room IS the first step towards making good sounding recordings.
