Sorry to yell, but I was looking throught the photo album and saw your pic. Is that an old LG-1 or an LG-2 you've got there? Sweet little axe!

My first (real) guitar was a 1959 LG-2. Still have it, too. Basically the same as an LG-1 except it has an X - bracing rather than a fan bracing on the top. Killer for blues...
 
Treeline, I wish I knew what model...I bought it used from a now out of business Mom and Pop type music store back in 1977 or 78........it's really small, and I love the neck....serial number stamped into back of head 804947.....paid 100 bucks for it.......gibs
 
Sometimes they had model numbers stamped on the back, inside on the crossbanding, right opposite the soundhole. Mine is in blue ink and says only LG2 ADJ. It originally had an adjustable saddle. The other way to tell, I suppose, is to look inside to see if it has X bracing on the top. If so, it's an LG2. If not, it's an LG1 and probably quite older.

And the neck is awesome, isn't it?!!
 
Hey Treeline, no x bracing at all...must be LG1, the slightly cheaper version.....number-wise, it could be a '66 although gibson numbers are confusing...could also be a '69, but the number seems low enough for '66....also the bridge isn't that plastic thingy that gibson put on for a while in the real early '60's, this one's rosewood I think, but the color is slightly lighter than the fingerboard....and it's bolted on from the top with the two holes covered with pearl covers.....the plastic ones were fastened from the inside, I think, and didn't have any bolts all the way through....still got part of the gibson logo on the pickguard, lol, I play pretty close to the bridge 'cause I like the hillbilly tone I can get....thanx for the tip about the bracing, I never knew that...I knew it looked like LG1 or LG2, but didn't know which....gibs
 
Dunno if "cheaper" is the right word here. More like "different". Hold onto that little sucker; it may appreciate. Its big advantage is that the whole thing was built with solid woods - your basic mahogany and spruce guitar - before the material pricing jumped way high. Decent condition LGs seem to be selling in the $400 - 600 range (when they pop up) and the sound is all there. Kind of like a late bloomer...
 
LG Gibsons

I do sessions with a producer once in awhile who has at his disposal any acoustic guitar,but favors an old LG1 from who knows when....man,that thing has just enough punchy mids and none of that too deep bass (that sounds good in an open room,but you have to ro;; off when recording).Every one of these great guitars that I have played has had amazing tone,and are still out there for a bargain.
