Got mine last night. I love it. The powerstrip that it is plugged into is hard to reach, however, so i was wondering if its ok to just leave that thing on for weeks at a time, i noticed it doesn't generate much self-heat.

Funny thing is that the unit will sustain more dammage powering up than it will being on for weeks at a time. I dont know what fletcher will say but I think it will be OK.

We have an RNC on our 'music on hold' at the shop... it's been on for like 3 years now... I don't think you'll have a problem.

Haha, ok but wouldnt the RNP (even though I dont have one) have a little more self-heat than the rnc? Just wondering, this isn't regarding leaving it on for extended periods of time.

I've got a rack of RNC's (6) that have been on for about 2 years now... no problems.

OK. I will tell you what changed my mind about wallwarts. I was recording a track and smelled electronics burning. I looked at my rack mount stuff, mixer and everything else. I kept recording. The smell grew stronger. I looked at my wallwarts and saw smoke starting to come out of the Presonus Blue Tube wart. It then caught on fire and plastic burning drips hit the carpet. I pulled the power strip and doused the shorted wart in water. If I had not been home, that would have been the end of my house. If you care about your house, wife, kids etc. you will power all wallwarts down everytime you are not present in the same room. Don't listen to the possible hundreds of posts about it being safe. It happened to me. It only has to happen once for complete disaster! I do not buy any equipment with those types of power supplies anymore as a matter of principle.

I have an RNP. But, I always shut the power off to all my equipment when I am not in the room for long periods of time. I hope nobody experiences what I have as the outcome could be total loss of everything you own and possibly everyone you love. It is not worth it. Take the time to shut down equipment.

Have you contacted Presonus?

No. I didn't. I upgraded to a much better pre. I just threw the Blue Tube away as the actual pre-amp also sustained serious damage. I am not sure if the short started in the pre and wiped out the wart, or the other way around. It was just out of warranty about a month or so.

You should've contacted them just to protect others from the same problem...coulda been a whole batch of bad warts!

Now you've made me more paranoid than ever...and I was just getting used to all this stuff plugged in. I guess I'll start my unplug ritual every night again :)

what about tuber stuff? will it wear out faster if it's left on? i have a UA 610 and i use the NTK a lot. i'm always paranoid about leaving them on for too long.

Tube stuff should not be left powered on for extreme lengths of time. Tubes have definate hours of operation. They are just like your standard lightbulb. The filiments will degrade with time.

However, due to the large surge of power that must be sent through the tube at power up to get the electron beam flowing from the cathode, it is not wise to turn off your tube gear every second you leave the room to grab a drink. Turning it off and on every 15 minutes is worse than just leaving it on. It uses up more electricity and wears down the tube. The same goes for light bulbs.

True. I don't mean that. Power all equipment down for the night, or whenever you are not in the room for a long time.
