Today
Rain. Highs in the lower 50s. South winds 20 to 30 mph gusting to 60 mph at The Headlands...becoming northwest 15 mph by afternoon.

Got that off the net, hope you're gettin' dug in over there - just the beginning, my friend; know how you can tell a native Oregonian coastal dweller? By the rusty chain he carries to fasten his bod to the biggest solid object he can find... :=) Later... Steve

wha?.....I can't hear ya.......winds blowin the trees down......roofs comin off!....

rusty what? there ain't no rust here.... all the metal is gone.. all I see is a blur..

fiber glass roof on the shop sounds like a battlefield.. I don't know which is louder,

the saws or the rain. Geeeeeeeeeeeezuss. I saw all the concrete sidewalks when I

first moved here. Thought someone had sandblasted them. Now I KNOW why. Johns

rain forest is NOTHIN I tell ya.....ohhhhhhhhhh shit.....there goes my car!!

Thanks for the warning Steve, but YER TOO LATE. hahahahah! The guy I was SUPPOSED to work for told me wait till the storms cycle from Port Orford. 100 mph winds. And they say theres no hurricanes on the Pacific coast. HA! hey, ya know I'm just kiddin with ya. I like your new avatar. Is that handsome "old fart" you? Shit, don't look like an old fart to me, ya old fart. Ha! So, your back on line. Cool. Check the wombat hole. Well, back to the sawdust generator. Thanks again.

I shouldn't-a said anything about the weather, it's SNOWING here now - big, wet, sloppy flakes - I HATE snow - snow is something you should have to DRIVE to, and only when you wanna be cold and miserable... Thank God for woodstoves and woodsheds full of DRY firewood... Steve

Winter finally hit down here too. It got down to 55 last night, brrrr. Right now it's 75 and sunny :D

Yanno, if you have a lot of gear, you can just leave it on all the time and heat the room :)

Actually, this is going to sound weird and totally out of charactor for me, but I made the decision about two months ago, to make five 21U racks in front of the vocal booth, and two 18U racks on either side of the console table. The recorders go in the cove, so they don't count.

Once this is all built, spackled and painted, I get to hump all the gear out of the attic and out of the boxes in the corner of this room, then decide what stays, and what goes.

I'm actually going to downsize some of my gear. I have stuff thats in perfect condition, but I never use, except to waste electricity.

Finally got rid of the last few blackface adats (ha ha) and sadly, I sold the two otari 24ch's. Using 2" tape just isn't economical anymore.

Once I'm done up here (figure, early spring) I know my wife is going to ask me to downsize the garage. I have about 8-10 engines in various states of assembly thats been there for longer than it should be.

Silly women - don't they know it's harder to keep enough stuff in a smaller garage? UP size, that's what we need... :=) (yeah, I know what you meant. but what fun is that?)

"I sold the two otari 24ch's. Using 2" tape just isn't economical anymore." Yeah, it is sad. I doubt if digital, even expensive digital, will EVER match 2" tape... Steve

Rain? Snow? Heat? Man! Of course, here I sit in Southern California.... we think its freezing cold when its 70 and burning hot when its 75. Wimps of the world, unite!

Yeah, you guise also think all rivers have concrete bottoms and you can drive a car on 'em :=) ... Steve

Regarding the garage - we have a two car garage that I can barely walk in anymore. The one bay is filled floor to ceiling with boxes from when we moved here three years ago, plus my studio sofa, and two lawn mowers. The second bay, is littered in tools, aluminum filings from when I was making an intake manifold, and the 8-10 engines mentioned above. Sad, I don't even remember exactly what is in there.

Regarding the Otari's, yes, I agree, it won't sound quite the same, but digital is affordable. My akai recorders work well with seagate drives of many sizes, but I use 2gig drives because thats enough space for 16 tracks of a 8-9 minute song, which gets expensive when you have many of these machines in the rack.

Not too long ago I acquired a pallet of seagate 2gig 1" high drives.

I'll be using hard drives like hot-swappable tape reels. Record, toss in media safe and not think about again.

Considering how often I've used them in the last four or five years, they are better off being sold. At least I got a good price out of it, and they have a home that will really enjoy them.

. Only you frederic, only you! A pallet, ha! You probably traded a cracked manifold for em too! Hey frederic, just got some kind of Yahoo thingy from ya? I clicked agree, and it disappeared.

Actually, I paid $150 for shipping. The drives were a buck each.

Yeah, that was me. I tried to IM you, but it said you had to "approve" first, that didn't occur for 20 minutes so I came down here while the pizza's still hot :) I'll be back up stairs in a bit.
