I stumbled upon this board from a general search for something else on google, and I like what I've seen so far, so I just registered. Seems a lot of you are very knowledgeable and well informed, and above all respect each other, and that's hard to find on a message board.
anyway, about me, 26 years old, grew up in long beach and norwalk, CA and now in ventura county in CA. Married 3 year old daughter, and hungry as hell. starving. musical background, grew up hip hop (not WITH it but part of it). I remember sitting up until midnite when i was 5-6 years old sitting with my radio/tape player, waiting for the latest rap song to get on the radio so i could tape it. then when i was 15 my best friend taught me how to play guitar, and that just opened up the whole world of music for me. I kind of left hip hop at the backburner for a few years while i dunked myself head first into everything else ive missed out on, listening to only hip hop all those years. started going from classic rock, to folk, to metal, to deathmetal, to alternative, punk, numetal, hardcore, etc. then i started mellowing out a little, and when i got married i started to pick up the piano, violin, sax, and then eventually discovering my most beloved instrument...MY "the" instrument, cello, two years ago. my genres switching more towards heavy classical immersing myself into the classical fundemental composers, as well as the newere experimental ones. and all the while i still listen to all the music ive loved prior, i just tend to focus on one genre at a time.
anyway long story short, ive been falling back more towards hip hop (after years of frustration and aggrevation, which still continues to this day about where mainstream hip hop is going) thanks to group efforts by people like dan the automator, octagon/keith, del tfhs, aesop rock, prince paul, de la soul, mr lif, binary star, blackalicious, etc. i see hip hop is not quite down the pooper yet. and i think i have something to offer it too. the last 2 months my writing has gotten more mature, baring all of myself now as opposed to just the surface stuff before. my heart and soul are now in every verse i write. and now i think with the love i have gained for ALL kinds of music in my 10 years of immersing myself in all kinds of it, i think i can give hip hop a little bit of fresh air. i hope i dont come off as arrogant or that im tooting my own horn.
so anyway the last part is a search for somebody who might have any beats that would fit my style. I work two jobs right now, so i dont really have the time or the money up front to find the hottest guy on the scene right now. the type of beats are kinda particular. Im looking for beats that would incorporate a lot of diff. styles of music, from classical to funk to jazz. I guess the best example would be like beats that are dan the automator -esque, from like the two handsome boy albums. a meld of all the said genres.
and i am also looking for beats that are very minimalistic, for the songs i have that would shine best on a very simple beat...a la aesop rock on float.
my name is going to be Hiram (with the a replaced with the square and compass sign of freemasons). I am a freemason myself so its not like im jacking people for the logo. anyway, the only thing i can offer is published clear credits for each person i actually use a beat by. and if any sales occur, a set percentage of each sale of each cd, which can be discussed if a final album is put together, ready for release. I'm a man of my word, and if i say i'll take care of you at the end, with credits and percentages, trust me i will.
sorry for the long post haha.
