Okay so I finally got everything set up the way I want it but when I record the vocals are always like half a second off.... I mean i can just move them over but its very annoying... im not sure if the mics picking up the vocals late or Cool Edit is but I have the soundcard on direct monitor so when I record they sound on so i think its Cool Edit but idk...

Can anybody help me plz??

So your just using a stock sound card? If so have you tried using ASIO4ALL drivers? Every sound card or interface has some delay, if you are using a stock sound card with stock drivers it could very well be 1/2 a second (500ms). I don't know cool edit at all, is there an option to compensate for latency?

I have a tascam us-122 soundcard but this never happened before.... i checked latency for the soundcard and its on 1024 so do i move that down or up or something?

One cause may be your software+hardware relationship, but there could be other factors so you need to rule them out one by one. One immediate thing to check is your audio I/O buffers. you may need to tweak it to compensate for latency. If CoolEdit has it as an option in the Preference Settings, while tracking, try to lower the buffer. You can test it by playing a continuous note from an instrument. Start with the lowest value possible. Chances are you'll get pops and clicks and distortion. While holding the note, nudge your buffer value up until you get a clear uninterrupted sound. Rule of thumb... the lower buffer value the higher CPU load so make sure to strike a balance. Do the opposite when mixing. Hope this helps.

Cool edit dont do ASIO. End of story.

Story continued....this means you are stuck with windows drivers and thats where you latency is.

Easy fix, go download Reaper. Free trial and it's cheap if you want to keep it. If you really can't afford it you only have to put up with a nag screen.

okay so i lowered the buffer and its completely on beat.... but now the beat keeps skipping when i try to record

At $40~60 you really can't go wrong. Unless you spend it on illegal substances.

Reaper is a whole other recording software... im using cool edit cus its familiar and for sole use on my home computer... i got pro tools on the mac at the other house but i just dont like how it complicate simple tasks so i use cool edit for that reason

is reaper easy to use?

wait wait wait... i just noticed that it isn't the latency at all... i just pressed record then stopped it and the audio moved over slightly by itself

Anybody know what the problem is there?

Do you mean your problem is going between Pro tools and Cool edit?

That's right Grim ..... one should be able to get a buzz for more like $5. then still have enough left over to purchase Reaper. :laughings: :laughings:

I got it working and for future reference cool edit will move waves by itself if "Correct for Start Sync in Recordings"

I appreciate all the help and feedback
