i'm a guitarist and bassist, but I've also got 2 cool drumsets (2 sonors, main is a force 1001 custom setup, and ones a normal 5 piece force 3001). my recording equiptment is 3 AKG d770's (http://www.atomicmary.com/browseproducts/AKG-D770.html) , some cheap nady starpower mic that came with my fostex mr8, and a shure SM57. I'm running it all into a Samson MDR1024 mixer, with phantom power etc. This is it. I've got one AKG on the kick, outside because inside it gets waaay too muddy as i use the e-mad head with nothing inside the kick, only the foam inserts on the outside. So thats facing the kick, not the hole, but towards the middle. then I've got the SM on the snare, and i've got another AKG on the area to the left of me, around to pickup the highhats. Then i've got that cheap nady mic on my small tom in front of the snare, and ive got the other AKG overhead. See pic:
So, do you guys think this is efficient? To hear what it sounds like, check out www.myspace.com/jayochs the first two songs are with this setting (rockzilla and what is this) I'm not great at micing guitars or drums at all, and all i use is adobe audition bc i love that program, and i could never figure out protools lol...what criticism do you guys have for this, and what suggestions can you make? i want to get a great sound, but idk theres something about mine thats just not...crisp and punchy enough. Plus i have a very hard time mixing wtihout DISTORTING the final product....idk how but i record everything low, and it STILL clips after all instruemtns are in!! ahhh help lol
