Here's a cover from Axis.... a Jimi Hendrix tribute band we just recently recorded that did a 5 song demo. This one is Spanish Castle Magic.

http://www.nowhereradio.com/artists/album.php?aid=1180&alid=-1

I hope you guys can deal with the low-quality (56 kbps) download.

Tell me if you think this guy really sounds like Jimi.

Unfortunately, he played a Mexican Strat that sort of killed his guitar tone, but the vibe comes through and the performance is, well... just listen. :)

Comments welcomed.

Yeah, he definitely has his moments...the signature slightly flat B string adds an air of authenticity, lol. Vocally, he has a couple of phrases where he sounds like a C.P.A...once he gets out of the first verse, it's a lot more convincing. Man, I wish he'd used a little less distortion, eh?

It's a lofi mp3, but I can tell you did a nice job recording it man. If you're still mixing, you might wanna' bring some of the top end of the kit up some more to give it that loud loose drum sound...except the crash...man, that's a weird sounding crash; I guess it's the mp3.

Anyway, crap...thanks for sharing.

the vocals are much closer sounding than the guitar. The guitar is pretty raunchy sounding. I agree...there are moments... kinda sounds like maybe his brother, if you know what I mean.
oops...solo is kinda lame too.

I'll give kudos to the recording, however. You can only capture what is provided.

man i hate to break it to you but me and my two friends do a better job. we're all 15!.. sorry :(

Better job at recording?... or the perfomance?

Remember, you're listening to 56kbps, a very low-quality MP3. I can put up a hundred recordings we've done that are pro-quality all the way. Everyone who knows us here knows that we do quality recordings, and I'd be glad to post some of them if you'd like. Unfortunately, this band had sub-standard equipment. Recordings are only as good as the source you record. You can't polish a turd and this is only a demo, not a recording meant for radio airplay.

If it's the performance you're talking about.... PROVE IT!

Post your version of this song (or any Hendrix song, for that matter) and we'll see who's performance is better... especially the vocals.

If you can't (or won't) do this now that you've made that statement, consider your credibility forever trashed on HR.com, kid.

Exactly... thank you.

We didn't have a great guitar tone to work with and the drummer hit light on the bass drum, but extra hard on the floor toms. I agree that the guitar tone is too fuzzy/heavy... but that's what he did and that's all we had to work with. This is their first time ever in a studio and didn't catch the hint we dropped on them that "less is more."

But I still think the vocals are awesome! :)

Hey, I'm actually trying to help this kid out. You shouldn't make claims you can't back up. Maybe he'll be more subtle and HONEST next time. If he can sing Hendrix better than the guy in this demo... I want to hear it!

I'm talking about the performence... im only the drummer but i know that my guitar player plays it more like the real song .... i would post it but i need to get some more gear for recording.. and figure out how to get it on a web site.. no singer... i geuss i could do it .....hahaha

You know what, I'll bet he can play it better if he practiced it.

But I'll also bet he'll play it like crap when the record-button is hit and it really counts.

i disagree ....we have recorded alot we are both starting to get used ot it... but yeah it was like that when we first started

Buck...can't you just arrest 'em...or is dey too yung? :D

Still love that Vai on Crossroads "cuttin' heads"....

Ok Nick The Man, that gives you exactly 1.5 years to kick our asses for hendrix tunes ('livetunesfromschool') :p :

And all we had to record on was a freakin ghetto blaster with a stinkin 60 minute maxell 'hi-bias' cassette tape tucked in the corner! I think we were going for the "Isle of Wight", extra long improvisation, forget the lyrics (like hendrix sometimes did) sound. Dude, nothing funner than being in highschool playin hendrix/SRV/Cream tunes...

Buck, i enjoyed that version man!
