Helpp strereo/mono?

Alright well I just got a new condenser mic and interface but when i record I have to record in stereo because if i record in mono it picks up no sound, but when i record in stereo only the right side is recorded? how can i just make it record normall:|

OH wait on audacity I found a tool that changes a track from stereo to mono, it workked:) is that right right way to do itt?
 
Way too much work.
Whatever program you're recording in, find where you select your input for recording, and select the one your mic is connected to.
What's likely happening is you're connected to something like "mono input (2)", but selecting "mono input (1)" when you try to record in mono. Then when you switch to stereo, it's automatically selecting both inputs, something like "stereo input (1/2)," and you're just kind of accidentally selecting the input you have your mic plugged into.

my recordings r in mono also n i use magix 14. i jus turn it into stereo sorta like the way u do in audacity.....wat sucks is u cant (or i jus dunno how to) stereo mix in magix....
 
I use audacity but when i go to select the channel I only have 2 options one is (1) mono and the other is (2) stereo
 
Yeah, I dunno man.
I took a look at the instructions for audacity and have tried using it before, and the thing just doesn't seem to be (to me at least) really well designed for recording and mixing.
It's a pretty good 2-track editor, I guess, but if you really want to do multi-track reecording and don't want to pay for a program, download Reaper.
It's much more intuitive to use as a DAW, and it's entirely free until you get guilty about how much use you're getting out of it and decide to pay the stupid cheap $50 it costs to license it (which doesn't change it's functionality at all, just gives the developers some payment for all their hard work.)
 
I've used audacity for a lot of things. Multitrack recording is not one of them. Did you try plugging your microphone into input 1 instead of input 2?

There is plenty of free or very cheap multitrack recoring software out there that is quite good. Audacity is just not designed for it, and if it was designed for it, it was very poorly designed.
