Hello people,

I have recently started using Sx with an Asus 1GHz system and a Creative 5.1 card .

What I want to do is record live guitar with some midi tracks.#

However I have failed at the first hurdle as I cant get SX to record my guitar.

It seems that the sound card is not mapped properly through to SX even though it appears to be. I have followed the instrcutions by the letter but it still fails to work.

I can however monitor the guitar on the PC speakers.

I would appreciate any advice on this problem as it is becoming a real bummer.

cheers

Follow the Getting Started manual (a PDF on the installation CD) -- they walk thru setup and recording a basic track.........

Actually ALL the help files are on the CD and they are extremely detailed..... they are well-written and cover everything you need to know in more detail than anyone could ever write here!

Does Cubase actually see your card (in the PORT config options)

Yes.

I have just been browsing the sound card forums and it was suggested that I should disable the line-in channel on the windows mixer to get the input to map across to the Sx software. Is this right?

Wait a sec -- wasn't there an issue with SB cards and Cubase???

Not sure...

If your referring to the issue of SB users generally having a difficult time getting their cards to work properly, yes. It's not that they won't work with Cubase, but over in the cubase.com forum there are always tons of posts from people having trouble getting their SB cards to work right. Once they get them up and running they work allright (although they are prone to occational "freak out" sessions).

Good luck bomber, I wish I could help you out but unfortunately I don't have an answer for you.

Out of curiousity, if you bought SX you must be pretty serious about your music....have you ever considered purchasing a soundcard that is designed for recording audio?? Compared to the cost of SX, there are some pretty inexpensive soundcards out there that can give you some great results and lot's more flexability.

Yeah, what he said.

My SBLive card is sitting there inactivated, in favor of a Delta 66. I miss my soundfonts, but it's worth it to have a decent soundcard.

I now have SX recording OK, however I am having some problems with playback now.

It is my attention to buy a more professional sound card to use with SX. However I thought I would try and learn to use the software first. I would be interested in any receommendations for sound cards that work well with this software. Ideally I dont need any more than four inputs for the work I intend to do and I wish to use external midi devices.

What kind of playback troubles are you having? Just off the top of my head, one of the big things that snags most SB users is the need to set your samplerate to 48khz, instead of 44.1 which is the default in SX. SB cards (I have read) like 48 khz. 44.1 will cause playback problems. Also, you want to watch out for a box that says something to the effect of "record what you hear" and you want that unchecked, or else you will find that every track you record has the audio from each previously recorded track included on it as well.

There are many good and inexpensive audio cards that will do what your looking for. Personally I use a higher end card so I don't want to make a recommendation for you without having used the product, but others will chime in I'm sure.
