I may be in the wrong forum but listen...
First things first...we know the 2nd internal drive is compatible.
We recorded an album on Cubase thru a Mac..everything OK...
loaded everthing to a 2nd internal drive to send to our mixing/mastering co.
They claim that the system is not recognizing the drive...OK.
They send it back and we, also are having this problem.
My question is...
How in the hell do we get our only existing sessions/info/data on that internal drive back into another Mac?
It's failing to ID the drive.

You say you transferred it to the second drive. From what to what?

I guess you don't have the original files on another drive since you say 'our only existing sessions'.

The drive could of got bumped during shipping and made non-functional. CD-R would have been a safer media for transit.

You may be able to recover the data, there are companies that specialize in this, but it will cost you some $$. It may be possible. The drive not being ID'd isn't the end of the world for the data on the drive, but it does mean you won't have the means of recovering it. Others will, for a fee of course.

In the future,

Backup, and backup again.

If this information(music) is *really* critical, or even not *that* critical, bring it to someone who specializes in data recovery. If your unsure of what your doing, you may lose the data for good.

We bought a compatible Mac drive (drive 2) and installed it inside the same computer that we recorded on. We copied existing drive (drive 1) to drive 2 and overnighted drive 2 with five grand insurance on it to our mixing/mastering co.
 
Forgive me and ignore if you already are aware of this, but when you ship drives, ALWAYS MAKE SURE THEY ARE IN ANTISTATIC BAGS! There are lots of CMOS components on the drive board that can very easily be damaged by static electricity.
Just tryin' to save you future headaches.
 
Thanks everyone. It looks like we're gonna re-record (now that proper facillities have been located close) and just get our insurance against the "package" FedEx or whomever it was....

Am I correct in assuming that there are companies that specialise in retrieving data off corrupted drives??

From what I understand....yes.
I'm sure someone here could actually begin you in the right direction (links, names, etc.)
I personally have no info for you...sorry.
