what are the essential peices of equipment needed to record drums? both for home use, and for studio?

thanks again.

1. Drums
2. Cymbals
3. Assorted stands/hardware
4. Drummer

Other than that, the answer really depends on what you have in terms of mics and recording equipment. You can certainly check in the archives here for lots of advice or maybe make your post a little more specific...

What does the kick your looking for sound like? Is it that "slappy" sound or a "thud". (don't listen to too much pantera)

#1 is drums!! Then mics, preamps, mixer, recorder(s), effects... For studio, you need someone who knows how to use these.... for home, it doesn't matter... ;) :)

Hire their engineer...

:D :D

Seriously, you need to get a bit more specific/detailed in your questions. And WHY would you want to copy someone else's sound - do your OWN THING!!!
