Help!!!!!

I want to buy a new computer for recording and am lost amid the countless array of combinations for my needs.Can someone tell me what processor to get Intel or amd?What sound card to get (I need at least 4in and 4 out pci preferably)I have all the software eg.logic audio,pro tools,cubase,cakewalk,nuendo,cool edit pro,etc.
I need some ones experience to help me waddle through this.Should i keep win 98 se as o/s?

search these forums....usually you can get an answer to your question without having to ask it.....
but, hey....it's cool to want to participate so....

here are some questions for you.....

Why in the world do you have so many recording softwares?
Gee whiz....it must have cost you a fortune....how much did you spend?

Audio or MIDI?
If audio...

I think you need to pick a primary application first....
if you said Cool Edit, Cakewalk...
I would say a Pentium 4 with a 7200 RPM HD and at least 256 MB of .RAM....and a decent Maudio or Echo card...


If you said..Pro-Tools...I would say a G4 with with Digi 01 or 02.....

You have a lot of apps. there man...ya know?

I have more apps than i posted with a ton of plugins such as:bomb factory,waves,vst,etc,etc,.I heard that amd is the processor to use

AMD or Pentium? It really doesn't matter.
Just don't get a crappy motherboard!
And make sure you have at least 512MB RAM, and go for a 7200RPM Harddrive.

These are all the basics.

You also need to consider how many tracks you're likely to want to mix concurrently and how many plugins you'll be using at the same time.

Some plugins, like reverb, have an insatiable appetite for cpu.

If I were you I would get a motherboard with the recent intel i865 chipset, a pentium 4, hyperthreading 800Mhz FSB, at least 512 MB of the dual channel DDR400 Ram, and at least 1 7200rpm HD with 8MB cache.

Asus make good boards.

An M Audio delta 44 will give you 4 ins & 4 outs, audio only, no midi. This is a good quality card at a reasonable price.

You'll also need a couple of preamps and/or a mixer.

Oh yeah and don't touch 98, go XP
