Ok i have lost all motivation to write a song and i want it back i can't get anything to inspire me. i wanna write one if this has happened to any of u guys let me know. i need help now!!! thanks

If your life seems too boring to document, trying inventing the history of a stranger.
What is going on in their life?
Did that guy just dump his girlfriend because his friends' didn't like her?
Did that girl just get back from the bathroom where she horked up her Shepherd's pie?
Imagine shit that doesn't happen to people you know. Write a story with characters and conflict.

All writers experiance some "writer's block" from time to time. As stonepiano said, maybe looking at life thru a different set of eyes can help.

Sometimes, if you approach your instrument from a different way (use open tuning on a guitar, use an organ sound instead of a piano sound on a keyboard, etc) or even better, try to learn a new instrument - can create new inspiration.

In another post someone wrote - "write crap" - which simply means keep writing - something, anything. Making yourself go thru the process is a disipline which can help to harness the "muse".

There have been many times I was not inspired, but I still tried to write something, or develop a riff, or learn some new chords - and at some point I always stumbled on something that led to a new song.

Hang in there - and keep writing.

Read books, there are many great paragraphs that can inspire you. November Rain was written based on a novel.

Take yourself out of the mix and become the messenger.

Why not try taking a break and watching an old movie on t v? Then retell the story in poem form or tag on a simple melody and come up with a ballad? Once you get into the creative mood other thoughts, feelings and ideas will begin to flow more freely and you can expand in whatever dirrection you desire. I guess the main idea is to get yourself started then to let your imagination take over.

I like to do something or go somewhere I've never been before. It kinda reboots the imagination.

Tell your significant other shes a cunt and she will give you some inspiration:D

observe others and then.....

observe others and then put yourself in one of their shoes...i did that and pissed off my lead singer...which led to the demise of the band....well it was headed that way anyway but i sped it up by doing that LOL hell i broke up with my girlfriend after she decided to become a reformed christian and tell me she had cheated on me with the manager at the dominoes where she worked. needless to say i have 5 songs done and number 6 is on the way.

Write a song about how uninspired you are. How your sad excuse for a life provides no excitement. How the world really sucks and provides no emotional nourishment.

But seriously. Keep on writing. Write through the block. You got some real good suggestions in this thread.

Unless you are a full time songwriter and or performer, life tends to get in the way and blocks the creative process. I keep a small hand held tape recorder in my car and during my commute- which is about one hour each way - I come up with some good sh*t in my head.I flick it on and play it back when I get home at night, or days later, whatever. Sometimes it's not as good as I thought, other times it has led to a pretty decent song.

Don't fret, you'll be fine, but keep the creative door open.

Write On!!

Try a different perspective - not just someone else's shoes (though that's good, too), but from a different "zoom" level:

Instead of boy meets girl from the boy or girl perspective, write it from the perspective of a country at war while a boy meets a girl, or a village suffering from a drought while boy meets girl, or write it as her nipple (unless you want airplay;) ), or his finger, or a pair of her shoes, or his car...

Just a thought.
