I have an old zoom 234 drum machine with only a midi in. And I want to slave it to Cakewalk express on my computer. and use the zoom drum sounds. Is this possable? If so what settings would I use in cakewalk. I'm new to midi. I have a soundblaster value and I'm trying use the joystick midi adapter. HELP!!

With only a midi in the Zoom drum machine has both an internal clock and an external clock setting. If you are going to use it as a slave, plug the midi out of the computer to the midi in of the Zoom and set it to external sync. The computer with Cakewalk then becomes the tempo master.

Make sure that Cakewalk is communicating properly with the midi cable --- if you can get midi notes in you can be fairly sure that you can get notes/midi clock out too.

There should be a setting in Cakewalk Express that will activate sync/midi clock out from the midi out wire.

Here are links to two good articles on midi basics - part one and part two.
