I have been writing songs for many years, but they always seem to become happy or jaunty or upbeat when what I am looking for is unrelenting pessimism, contempt for religion, and utter hatred and dread.
But there are so many songs and bands that agree with my worldview that it's difficult to come up with new and interesting ways to phrase it.
What I try to do is find my worst fears and sadnesses and feel them when I'm writing music. This seems to help.
