I am new to MIDI and i really don't have alot of interest in it but i do have interest in home recording. i have Cakewalk Sonar 2.0 XL and i want to record some simple demos of my songs with drums. I have a Yamaha DD-5 which has a MIDI output. I would like to use it as a simple MIDI trigger so I can record simple drum beats in real time along with my guitar and bass tracks. I have tried and tried but i just can't seem to figure this out. I have an older cakewalk pro audio book, but i doesn't help me.
Can anyone offer me some advice or point me towards a site or book or program which can help me? If not is there a simple way to program simple drum tracks for this purpose? What is the best program?
Thanks in advance

...how did you connect your MIDI device to your PC ? and how do you setup your MIDI ports in SONAR ? I don't have Yamaha dd5, but any regular MIDI devices (controller) should be able fine for input MIDI data to SONAR. ;)

my DD5 is connected via the soundcard MIDI port using a Y cable. I think my problem is how it is set up in Sonar. I have no idea how to set up the channels, instruments, etc. in the program. can anyone give me a brief explanation of the most basic way of doing this?
