Have a Studiomaster Pro2 203 mixer. I haven't been able to find a manual online..The problem is that the controls are weird...Everything is marked A1,A2,A3,etc. There are no clearly marked return controls. I have hooked up the send and return jacks and still can't get a signal..If I plug into the seperate channel s/r's they work....Anyone have any experence with these mixers? DSC00029.webp

Never worked on one, but walk through where you're at now (what you do understand, what works etc).
'A1 -- A etc; are the channel's Aux level controls. 2&3 can be pre fader or post (after the fader).
Follow a row to the right, are there also Aux master knobs? Any mixer ought to have things like 'Aux 1 out' or the like marked for their output jacks.

Know how most of it works..Really can't figure out where to adjust send and return levels...I have another studiomaster mixer, different model. It has normal markings on the controls...Trying to get my reverb unit into all the channels. This is no problem with the other mixer..The Pro2 has 1 left send/return and 1 right....DSC00025.webp

The Send/Return is the main mix insert. Use the whichever A1-5 is post-fader as your send and Aux Inputs as returns.

So I saw some pics (small) that looked like it might not have Aux master knobs-- True or not?
If not each ch's aux knobs are the only send level controls.
Did you find the (five is it?) aux out jacks?

If you have spare channels there's the option to use them as FX returns- gives eq, pan etc that can be useful. The down side is be very sure to keep the aux that is sending to that same FX unit OFF! (can you say feed back >:)

Tried several different hookups over the past week when I had the time...The main sends seem to send out ok,but the return seems like it may not be working. I have returned back into the aux in's and that works but is a little dicey......I believe the 5 jacks listed A-1 -A-5 are inputs.. They each have a corresponding push button and level control..I cannot find any info on this mixer. Not even a picture...There is an aux out (2 rca jacks) I have them going into a a/d converter....I have a Alesis adat on the way and would really like to hook them up......ARGGGGGGGG!! Just really need a road map to the horribly labeled controls.....What is wrong with the British??? :cursing:

Sounds like more of a case of a missing manual, then something wrong with the British. :D

Those are the main mix inserts. You might use these for eq or compression on the whole mix.

What do you mean dicey? They are meant for various purposes, including returning reverbs and other effects.

A1-A5 are the aux outputs. Use these as monitor mix (pre-fader) or reverb (post-fader) sends.

It's a live mixer, not really meant for multitrack. But since it has 16 channels and you're recording to 8 you can use it the old fashioned way: the first 8 channels are inputs sending from their inserts to the tape, the second 8 are returning signal from tape.

I usually run my effects sends back through channels anyway, example Aux send to reverb, reverb return to a channel to master. I don't like effects returns, I like to have eq, on my effects returns. Maybe this was built without effects returns?

Alan.

Returning to channels is great, but this board does have two Aux Inputs. The last two main channels are combo mic and stereo line so you could return your effects there too.

Exactly the best way to do it.

Alan.

Yep, I like the eq, the ability to put effects in monitors etc., but if he's going to be recording to an ADAT he may need all his channels for tape inputs and outputs. After tracking he could reallocate channels to effects returns.
