Help....

My advice to you IQ is to browse the forums here, and lots of the questions you have posed will be answered....
Use the 'Search' function, and look for info that way as well.
Check each forum that has a subject you would like to know about, and post questions accordingly.
USE THE SEARCH FOR ALMOST ANY SUBJECT FIRST

I am certain that almost any question you have, has already been asked, the search function will bring up all of the posts that apply.

By the way,.....
Welcome to the HR boards my friend, hope you find all you are lookin for.....:D

Upstate :D

I am answering some of your questions in "no direct order". :)

You could pick up an MPC 2000XL, but that is going to eat into your budget. :(

You could go 8 out of your MPC to 8 IN on your soundcard.

In that case you will need to get a soundcard with 8IN/OUTS.

Maybe the Delta 1010??? http://www.midiman.net

If you want to hook up your tables then you'll need to get a DJ mixer (IMHO), and it'll come in handy when and if you want to lay down some scratches.

You'll need to pick up some monitors. I would suggest the Event 20/20's, since you are on a budget.?.?

There are a ton of options when it comes to keyboards. Being budget minded you could check out the Yamaha CSX2.

http://www.yamaha.com

You could play it safe and pick up a PIII 800 or 900mhz, 256ram, 133bus, 20-30gig-7200rpm HD (x2, if it's still in your budget) from a site like Dell (go to their refurbished area).

Or maybe, somebody here from this site could build you a comp. for a better price.

Do some price checking, then post us back. :D

peace...

p.s. Welcome to the site ;)

p.p.s. Check for a CD burner for the PC, also.

1010

Iq: I'm a Newbie myself [2 months] and have gotten most of my info from these posts. I got a Delta 1010 for $599 including shopping. The external breakout box is a super feature.

1010

I made a mistake. www.doctoraudio.com has the Delta 1010 for $495. That's where I got mine and I don't remember whether this is the price I paid or not. But anyhow it's lots less than the 1K you were thinking.

As I mentioned, I've been doung this for about 2 months. I thought you might be interested in what another Newbie is deciding. I've decided to go softsynth for sounds. As I understand it, even the SoundFonts in SB Live are a good start. I'll get GigaSampler or GigaStudio if and when I learn enough and it seems like the way to go. I've been computing longer than most[ Cal Berkley circa 1960] and general purpose computers always stay the course! So what I've collectd is:

1.4GHz Athlon Thunderbird a la Pete Leoni @ ProRec.com
512 Mb Ram
SCSI HD's
SB Live mostly disabled
Delta 1010
DaviSound TB-3 in progress--a custom unit
2 x C1's
Sonar XL

This is really not a big buget and except for CD burning [which I don't need yet] it looks like it should take me a long way. There are of course effects plug ins or even hardware but my ignorance doesn't require that at this time.

Give me a holler from time to time--we'll compare notes.
