help with recording vocals?

Hey

I've recorded some rock songs.. and i'm trying to do vocals over them w/ audition. I was wondering if you have any hints for recording vocals...
Recording and mixing..

any hints w/ using the presets, or if you know where i can find some plugins... let me know! Thanks

Great recordings start with the initial tracking. If the sound of your original vocal track does not sound close to the sound you want to end up with, then begin again and attack it from a different angle. I would explore several different mics, mic placements, and even different rooms until you discover that “sweet spot” sound that you want to go with and work with. You can find it. It just takes a little persistence.

The less that you have to hammer and twist your recorded tracks into shape, the better.

my standard vocal tip i learnt from some nice engineers years ago.
record your vocal twice...trying to stay as close as possible.
then start experimenting with different millisecond offsets from zero - for example 5 to 20 secs with one track.. this will take a lot of time to find the sweet spot.
you will find it thickens up a vocal - even with a bad mic if you find the sweet spot. once you get it right then try adding touches of cools effects around the second of the two vocal tracks. bring the effected track just under the first one. remember - one track stays NOT offset. ie...at zero.
the other offset track is the one to try a touch of effect on eg...ech, reverb or whatever. also note - the faster the song the shorter the delay if your using delay fx etc. just experiment.

Like RawDepth is saying, the best way to record vocals is to get the sound correct before you record it. Use a vocal booth, different rooms and a good mic and pre. You don't want to listen to manning1, he is just an old man with old ideas trying to sell cheap software. Using tricks and effects to make things sound good usually is a sign of polishing crap. Don't fix it in the mix, get it right before you track it.
