I've been recording for about 10 years now, but using a computer to multi track is brand new to me. I have a Dell laptop with 512mb memory, and a pentium 4 (2.0 ghz). All I need to be able to do is record 2 tracks at a time at most. This is not my main setup, but just for when I travel so I can make demos. I tried to run that Alesis USB board with cubase, and when I tried to monitor the tracks I had already recorded while I recorded a new one there was a horible delay (latency?)

Is there anything out there any bundles out there for under $300 that my system will run?

Thanks.

Sounds like a driver issue. Make sure you are using the ASIO driver for the interface. You may also want to look at some different software thats easier to use like Tracktion, Reaper, or Audacity (all are free to try, Audacity is freeware). I find that Cubase really shines when it comes to midi and the learning curve is kinda steep.

Cool, thanks for the info. I'm gonna look for Audacity right now.
