I have a
desktop computer
Soundcard = m-audio audiophile 2496
Mixer = phonic mm1002a mixer
Headphones = Sony MDR-7506
Microphone = MXL 990
Active Monitors = m-audio studio pro 3

I want to know how do I can connect the mixer to the soundcard. Right now i have the Main L/R hooked up to the input of the audiophile 2496 and the 2T RTN on the output of the audiophile 2496. Then I have the REC hooked up to the microphone spot on the PC. I wanted to know is that alright or it could be better. I was thinking though if i was recording would the mic pick up the monitors since it's hooked up to the control room???

Here's how the mixer looks:

Dude, you've got some serious homework to do. I know you just want an answer and to go record, but do yourself a favor and read something about what you're doing first.

Good luck,

Ugh, your limited on what you can do with that mixer. Here is what I would do:

#1 The easy way: Monitor through your soundcard (Monitors hooked up to stereo out on the soundcard). Stereo outs from the mixer to the inputs on the soundcard. You can also do 2 mono channels by panning each channel hard right or left

#2 Monitoring via mixer: this is a little more complicated. Hook up a 1/4" TS to rca cable from the MAIN out to the RCA input on the soundcard. The Stereo outs go from the soundcard to 2T RTN. Monitors get plugged into the CTRL RM Outs. Now see that 2T RTN thing next to the master fader? Make sure that the button for CTRL RM is on. What this does is makes sure that the signal from the soundcard does not get routed back into the master mix resulting in feedback, if you would like to hear this feedback, press the button with the line to the master fader, it should always be off.

The master outs will serve as your recording bus and you will not be able to monitor through your DAW, but will be able to get playback via the 2RT channel). You will always be monitoring via the mixer unless the CTRL mix does not have the Master mix pipe through it (check your manual but my guess is that it does)

I reccomend #1 since you might get lost with #2
