hey everyone, i was just wondering what you guys thought about doin this

i have an emachines notebook, so it is nice and fast 64 bit. but i am wondering what the best interface would be, i am kind of leaning towards pro tools. so i am thinking that the 002rack might be the best choice. The only thing is i have heard the pre amps and A/D convertors arent that a great. so i am thinking about getting an apogee mini me as well. so that i can track single instruments and vocals through that and when i want to record bands and or drums i can use both the mini me and the 002 rack inputs.

does this sound like a good idea? and even do able? would i be able to put the mini me through my digi 002 into pro tools?

im a little confuesed about this light pipe thing also...

anyways if someone could shed some light and i know theres enough knowledge on this board to ! i would really appreciate it!

thanks alot!

you could absolutely do this, just use the mini-me as an AD converter, through the spdif outs on the mini, into the 002's spidf in... no reason to worry about lightpipe, lightpipe by its nature is like optical spdif, but designed for 8 channel I/O.

The only wildcard is whether you'd be able to use all 8 ins on the 002 + the spidf simulataneously for 10 ins... they might limit it to 6 analogues, if you're using the spdif.

As for quality, the 002R is decent but not life changing in any way, the apogee's are good, but very expensive for the presumptive market. Anyhow, listen before you buy, and trust your ears rather than the names on the boxes.

Good luck
