Help with my Roland D-70

I recently acquired a Roland D-70 keyboard which looks to be in really good condition. However, when I power it on, there is nothing going on with the main screen. All I see is a bunch of random patterns. I know that this keyboard is in working order, and I also know that the previous owner did a memory reset a while back. I'm pretty ignorant when it comes to keyboards, especially old ones like this. Do I need to buy a card with all of the different sound banks or are there ones which are in the keyboard that I need to load? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

It shouldn't look like that.

Dig into the manual and find out how to reset the factory presets.

Another possibility might be the internal battery is going bad. I'm not sure if that's something you can change yourself or if you need to take it in to a Roland repair shop. Maybe --- if you're handy with such things --- you could unbutton the case and look around in there for a round silver disk the size of a quarter which will be the battery - AFTER unplugging the unit, of course. The number on the battery will tell you what you need to replace it with, and finding a replacement online is just one of the ways our lives as musicians have benefitted from internet technology.
 
If it is the battery, Most likely it's a CR2032, available at any Radioshack, Walmart etc.
 
Well, I changed out the battery and I have the same problem. Unfortunately, I don't have a manual for this thing. Does anyone know how to restore the factory presets? Or, does anyone know where I could view a manual online or order one? thanks for the help.
 
If you believe this from the Roland website you will be able to get a manual in PDF format "soon".

I would't hold your breath, stand on one foot or swear off blinking until then though...
 
Suprised the battery replacement didn't work. Had a similar problem with my old DX7-S. Garbled display for internal memory - change of battery and presto. Maybe you have to reset something internally - who knows.

For a manual, you might try searching eBay. I've seen both new and vintage equipment manuals come up for auction here and there.
 
I have a used D-70. I have no manual. I'm not a synth person. I'm usually SOL with my D-70

The friend I bought the synth from "lost" the D-70 when he changed the battery. He had to go to Roland Canada to get it re-loaded.
