I just purchased the Lexicon core2 card/box and I can't get the inputs to work. All 8 outs work, but not the inputs. It's not conflicting with anything else. My soundblaster works just fine next to it.

thanks in advance...

I've heard so many horror stories with these cards. Please tell me you bought it new, if so, pack it up and take it back. Get something with a better track record. If you got it used, you may wanna try tech support.

I got the input to work fine, now if I close the lexpanel, the inputs shut off. Even if I leave it open and open another program on top of it, the inputs shut off.
thanks

Please do not post if you cannot help me.

I was trying to help you..wether you take my advice or not is up to you.

brokenwindow,
I too had problems with my Core2 in the beggining. But I managed to take care of it (thanks to tech-support and updated driver). I'm afraid that all the bad reviews are true, but Lexicon is doing a good job in solving most of the problem. What you need to do is to download the latest up-dated version of the Core2 driver. Follow the direction the way it is written out i.e., cold boot instead of re-boot (trust me on this one, they know what they're doing). Delete all your original driver along with whatever program came with it before you install the latest driver. If you follow the instruction very well you should have your Core2 working.
Note: Lexicon claims that Core2 will not work with Athalon for some unknown reason. But I recentlly spoke with a techie there and he said that he had at least 3 people who had theirs working using Athalon 800 with VIA 133 chipset motherboard. I suggest just go with Pentium (safer and will save you the hassle in the long run).
Like what I said, follow the instruction to a tee and you will be happy. As a matter of fact, I am running my Core2 with a miniscule system of P-III 550 with 256 sdram and a couple of 9 gig scsi uw. I get 24 trks with effects easy with cpu usage of approx. 10-20% using Cakewalk 9.
Well, hope you the best luck.

Thanks Stratman. I have the Core working now..thanks to awesome technical support... but there's one thing thats bugging me. In Cool Edit Pro, (or any other program for that matter) Is there any way to monitor the inputs of the Core2 without being in record mode? It's kind of a pain to have to be recording just to hear your guitar if you want to practice a verse or chorus before you record it..

Thanks again everybody.

brokenwindow,

I'm glad you got your Core2 working. It takes a while to get it going but once you got it, it's great.
I haven't really played with the Cook Edit that came along with the Core2 but I manage to monitor that input of my equipments, without being in the record mode, using my Cakewalk Pro 9. I beleive there is a way to do that with Cool Edit Pro. I just can't remember right now. Let me play with Cool first and i'll get back with you on that.

BROKENWINDOW,
Well, I played with the Cool Edit Pro for a long time. I'm afraid my conclusion is not really great. First of all there is no option to playback the same recording sound at the same time at all (bummer). The best thing I got was to record a dummy track for the lenght of time your song will be recorded. Mute the dummy track and record the rest of your instrument that you want to record. That way you can hear your instrument being recorded in real time. I know your using Cool and I must admit it's a good program but if you have a chance try out Cakewalk programs. Even the old version 6.0 is good. A little limted though, but works great.

In the Lexpanel there is a monitor option. Set the input(s) you want to monitor and press.... monitor. :)

Yes jim, the inputs are only on when you have the lexpanel open or another program(cool edit for me) that can open the input. In Cool Edit Pro's case, you need to have it actually recording for you to hear the playback of a track AND your input. Kinda sucks...Are simular cards like this? The Echo Darla for instance?

I've only spent a little time recording with Cool Edit, but most tracking software has an LED kind of display with which you set the recording input levels, and a monitor option. Have you taken this problem over to the Cool Edit forum yet?
