So recording with the Q-10's is going pretty well but we have not put the inserts to much use yet. Yesterday we had a pretty big session and tried using our fatman tube compressor on the vocals
and just couldn't get the levels right. Can anyone offer some ideas on how to set this up? I have not had a chance to talk to aardvark about this yet but I assume that this is how they have the Q-10's configured.....

mic --> mic preamp, gain controlled by the trim knob in the software mixer --> insert send to out board comp or whatever -->
insert return from outboard gear --> analog to digital audio converter

The thing is that in the software mixer the levels meter only shows the signal strenght coming into the converters and when using the inserts with a compresor with no input level meter it makes it really hard to set the proper levels for recording. Any of you Q-10 owners out there have the same experience? Find away around it? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The inserts are post mic-pre but pre AD converters. So what the meters show is the output level of whatever device is attached to the inserts. I have a RNC on my mic channel, and I usually just adjust the output level of the RNC vs the input gain in the Q10 control panel to get the most signal with the least amount of noise.

Hope this helps.
