I am new to this but am quickly developing a passion for it. I am recording my band, a hardcore two guitar band. I am looking for a guitar sound much like that found on As I lay Dying's cd Shadows are Security. I know this question might be played out but it would help me out alot. I believe my amp is giving me a tone pretty damn close to that but as far as mic selection and placement, what would be the best way to go to get a sound that in your face and crisp? I saw a picture of their studio setup, 2 4x12 mesa's each with the top 2 speakers miced (in order) with an sm-57, md-421, sm-57, and a small one i didn't recognize but maybe looked like a tom or kick drum mic. They were all right on the grill, would this cause phase problems? Also, any thought on panning, hardpanning on harmonies and closer panning on rythem/leads, or just pick one and stick with it? Thanks in advance for anything you can help me out with.
Richard
