I plan on doing my own songs all by myself, but the problem is, while i can get the guitars the vocals and the bass I'm at a loss at what i am to "do" with drums since I can't play them and I don't own a kit, while I don't mind paying for software, I don't want to spend like 300 dollars on a program, I will probably using Cool Edit Pro for the recording, I'll have a 24 bit/96 kbs soundcard, and a makie pre mixer with shure mics for the guitar/vox/bass

the style i am looking for is rock (like rush to stray cats to the ramones to the clash)

and on the side i want to make really annoying dance trance songs so i can make lots of dough ;) J/K

thanks guys Rob

Your choices (from best to worst):

1. Get a drummer.....nothing compares
2.Get a drum machine and love it into sounding good enough for now
3. Get fruity loops and patch samples together
4. Download some real drum samples in bars to paste together

But what you should do if you are serious is buy a set (accoustic or electronic) and learn to play the drums.

If you don't want to do a lot of sequencing to make drum patterns, yet still want a lot of control over drum sounds , another option is to use MusicLab's SlicyDrummer and Fill-In Drummer midi plug-ins with a software drum sampler like Battery or FXpansions DR-008. However, you currently have to have either Sonar, Cubase SX or DR-008 to use the MusicLab midi plug-ins.

i've been thinking of using this Leaf drum program, because i just need a beat and nothing real fancy obviously nothing beats a real drummer but because of my location price utah, it kinda leaves me no choice but to do it myself i was just wondering if there were any programs that would be easier for Rock type stuff opposed to annoying dance crap

hmm that leaf program is looking better and better. Very cheap 25$. Plus when writing the files (converting to .wav) it also allows the option for recording each piece seperately for multitracking programs. So I can compress the snare to hell if I want and leave the rest alone.

It sounds to me like you kinda want premade loops, there is a ton out there. I had an easier time finding loops than actual drum sounds.
